[MV Review] Dal Shabet - Hit U

Dal Shabet makes a comeback, throwing aside their old cutesy aegyopop in favor of a sexier and more violent approach. Full review after the jump.

Dal Shabet's newest project is a surprisingly radical departure from their previously established song niche.

The music video is a storyline MV for a change, starring Dal Shabet's own Jiyul as a (I'm assuming) jilted lover. Rejected by her boyfriend/husband for bringing great dishonor to his famerly, she snaps and goes on a roaring rampage of destruction, shooting up some poor saps and finally her lover in a glorious pinku shower.

Quentin Tarantino would be proud.
Shoot bitches, get money.

Yes. Pink. For fear of being smacked with the b&hammer, Dal Shabet replaces actual red blood with a rather whimsical cotton-candy pink color that suddenly changes the image of rather badass Jiyul duel-wielding revolvers into a petulant girl paintballing. Albeit with dual-wielded revolvers.

The shooty bits are broken up by snippets of the fairly decent and sexy dance and some romantic pre-homicidal memories. I wish there was more shooty, less sappy, but it wouldn't be a KPop MV otherwise, let alone something a girl group would do.

One thing bothers me though. After Jiyul kills the dude, he falls flat on his face. Yet the last scene of the MV has him sitting upright next to the bed with copious amounts of blood smeared all over the floor. Why the fuck she move the body, and why oh why does all the evidence seem to point to one ghastly conclusion?

*coughnecrocough*

The girls themselves look gorgeous, with lovely outfits and styling to boot.

The song is rather good, shocking me with how radically Dal Shabet's image has been revamped. Gone is every last vestige of aegyo, leaving only raw singing behind. However, the random rapper they pulled off the streets (I'm assuming it's a no-name scrub, forgive me if I'm wrong) is very VERY out of place and brings the overall song down a bit. If I wasn't so used to this shit happening all the time, I'd be more mad about it.

The very cringe-worthy Engrishing of the chorus doesn't help any either. If they had gone with say "Hate you" instead of "Hit you," it might very well have been a near flawless song. Too bad the jelly squealing Blackjack in whoever wrote/composed/produced the song scrapped the idea at the last minute. Ah well.

TL;DR:

Awesome storyline MV, good song that didn't need the awful rapper or Engrishing at all.

I give it 3.5 out of 5.

PS: The original scene in the MV has Jiyul putting ON the stocking, but I figured you folks would appreciate her taking it off instead.

  1. Yeah, nice MV. I personally like the pink blood-idea. I think it serves well as a link between their new sexy and old (barf-inducing) aegyo image.
But I dont really get why she had to shoot all those guys in the first place.

    3. viki definitely has slutty potential, we got a crotch shot in this mv, and in the original choreography for bling bling she doing the hump the floor dance move during her rap (they only performed it once and it was just a fancam of the performance, but i think it was around when bubble pop was banned, so she never did it again)

anyway i'm glad they finally let jiyul show her potential, she's always been hot but for some reason they kept sticking giant eyed ah young (yoonhye'd) and okay looking subin in the front

  8. I liked it a lot, and i have always been a fan of Dal Shabet... Well, Supa Dupa Diva and Dal Shabet i liked, not anything else they released.
But anyway, it seems in KPOP all you need to do to be considered bad ass is to wave your hair, wear some eyeliner/lipstick and wear black leather or lace.

  9. fucking zaku. this song to me is horribly executed, and dal shabet needs to go back to being cute, their blank expressions in the mv and their one live so far scares me and makes me think of the two demon twins of boyfriend.

  11. This is just an average "dark song" by a girl group, it just sounds so damn basic. And I was rooting for them too. Oh well, see you in your next comeback girls.
