True Artists ? Or idols ?

Now I don't fault anyone for liking any particular idol group or enjoying quality picture time with a specific idol. But when I read comment like the following it makes me sad and slightly disappointed in, well the 12 year old that wrote it.

As you can see this particular delusional fan truly and wholeheartedly believes that his/her beloved Big Bang are TRUE ARTISTS (as they so put). But then again this is just an example of many kiddies who've written a similar statements saying that their groups are true artists and NOT idols. I've seen this written for MBLAQ(especially during their recent release), Beast, 2NE1, BEG, Super Junior (I don't even understand who would even think about writing this about Super Junior), etc...

Now I'd just like to state one thing (this is my opinion anyways) if your favorite group was manufactured in a basement by a lecherous CEO for years and has very little or zero say in what they wear, how they act, what they sing and where they go than yes, they are in fact an idol group and no they are not TRUE ARTISTS.

I believe this will be my new pet peeve of 2012.

  1. SO DAMN TRUE. No group has a say, there all controlled.

  2. Can we not even start this topic? Whether or not the claims are even true, the level of idiocy behind the basic premise gives me a headache.

  3. At the very least YG gives them some freedom to produce their own songs/music. SM and JYP on the other hand...

  5. JYP let yeeun produce. and she rocked at it. SM artists are all crap though, they don't even seem to have a slight interest in music

    1. Why do they need to have an interest in music? They just need to whore out to half assed tracks and still make heaps of money.

      LIFE IS EZ.

    2. er....you dont know shit about SM artists, do you? A lot of them have composed their own songs before. SHINee's jonghyun even wrote the lyrics of a title track before(juliette)

    3. You follow only JYP artist or WG that's why you don't know anything about SME artists. Last time i checked some SJ, TVXQ, Shinee & SNSD members have produced and written songs in their albums...do some research b4 you throw things out there ok?...

  6. g dragon does make some of his music. as crap as some of his songs are but you gotta give him props for that :-/ in the korean music industry. but in the international music industry, most artists write their own songs.

  7. GD smoked weed. He is a true artist for sure.

  8. As a Kamilia, Gyuri could have been an artist. Gyuri has rapping skills , as for the rest of Kara they are Idols.
Sunny Hill i regard as Artists, well, It's pretty much Janghyun being an artist to promote the girls, who are talented.
Yenny is kind of an artist, as she wrote some songs. And doesn't Yubin write the raps?

But anyway, 2NE1, BigBang and the rest are idols. I bet their "input" in the songs aren't really listened to.

    1. It didn't matter whether Gyuri can rap or can write rap lyrics, she was trimmed to be an idol and that is all she'll ever be.

    2. WtF? she can rap? why didn't she rap in step? cuz they felt sorry for Hara for having no lines or what?

And she rapped for her radio thing.
Maybe i am blinded by KARA biased though, so dont take my word for it.

  10. wasn't BEG formed by Jea? they started out as a somewhat legit rnb group. i mean i still wouldn't call them "true artists" though

    2. I would call Miryo an artist as she was a pretty well known underground rapper before B.E.G.

  12. More articles like this please

  13. Bigbang started off as idols, but in the meantime they have a certain freedom to what they do. sungri, taeyang, gd and top were mostly free to do their own music throughout their solo activities.
i still wouldnt consider them as true artists. but they are closer to it than most of the others.

  16. I hate Abracadabra, it made BEG look like whores. But at least they still produce and write their own songs. Well, Jea and Miryo do. I miss pre-Sound G days so fucking much.

  17. So true. That's why I prefer Jpop/rock, where bands writing and composing their own songs are more common than not (except for the Hello and AKB groups), while it's a rarity in Korea. When comments are filled with examples of the few who do compose their own songs, instead of the few who don't, it's sad.

  18. I'm sick of pop fans around the world who think their favorite manufactured-flavour-of-the-month is an artist.

But I am ESPECIALLY sick of YG stans.

    1. YES. Stop saying "2NE1 IS THE BEST GIRL GROUP IN THE WORLD!!11!1 Girl powahhh!1!!!!" and say shit to other girl groups like KARA just because the others can't ~*execute*~ sexy concept perfectly, or "BIG BANG IS MUSIC-DOL!!!!11! TRUE ARTISTS!!!" when they are /still/ an idol group. Come on :/ I'm sick of the double standard actually kkkk.

  20. An artist is a person who writes their own music :)

  21. they're all controlled, but BIG BANG is controlled less. GD and TOP petitioned to YG to make their own album. Taeyang made it a point to participate in lyric writing and production in Solar. Daesung and Seung-ri don't do shit..but what are you gonna do..That's more shit than 95% of idols. That's more than Rihanna does.

Relatively speaking, Big Bang does live music..compared to their idol counterparts..lmao

  22. i think Bigbang are true artist tho.. coz their write they own music .. and yg give them freedom
