Question of the Week 39

Seeing that Nell made their comeback, I thought of this week's Question of the Week.

If there was ONE thing you could change about mainstream Korean music, what would it be?

For me, it would be that rock music would be more popular. It sucks that I have to go on indie sites just to find any Korean rock music. Before I found out about some other rock bands through indie sites, the only rock bands I knew of were Nell and Loveholic, and of course, FT Island and CN Blue as the idol bands.

  1. Music show to allow live bands so that i can see more bands appearing in music show and for them to emulate japanese music industry where idols and musician can actually compete in term of popularity and album sales.

  3. So many things! But I think my top would to be to put a cap on the number of girl group debuts in a year.

  8. more collaborations of artists (like the ones they used to do at award shows).

all we get to see these days are those dance performances that inevitably have half of the performers mess up http://bit.ly/HPCcqm (I'm looking at you G.NA)

  9. For there to be a bigger alternative/industrial/metal scene in Korean music. The only rock music I can find is indie and pop rock; BOTH of which I'm not huge fans of.

I don't really complain on the masculinity of Korean boy bands because Japanese male singers tend to be 10x as girly.

  10. Purge all the useless members from the idol groups.

  11. Bring back the diversity! K-pop should include non-idol music and the idol music needs a lot more variety and genuinity.

  12. I would change the useless rapping, I mean, why is that even a formula for making a kpop group. Seriously, its just useless, get people that can actually sing dammit.

  13. Less useless idol in a idol group

  14. For all of you asking for more masculine boy groups, are you guys or girls?

If you're guys, what do you care? Those boy groups are not aimed at you so I don't get why you should get so defensive, unless your fear is that foreigners will catch a glimpse of SHINee and assume that all Korean guys are like that and thus, lowering your longed-for chance of scoring with a non-Asian girl.

Boy groups are always going to be feminized because they're aimed at pre-pubescent female preferences. Asking for a grungy, hardcore boy group would be the stupidest and most contradictory thing in the world.

2PM is probably the most "masculine" a boy group is ever going to get.

    1. Well having the K-pop scene filled with feminine boybands is annoying when you don't like them (and I'm a girl), and it's another negative aspect of having to share the fandom with pre-pubescent fangirls. Everything is marketed for the same preference and I personally would like to see something different.

  15. No more 87693867 members in a group, like (soon) T-ara, SNSD, Suju, EXO ...
Over 6/7 it seems totally ridiculous. And again, 6/7 is already too much, but bearable.

  16. More groups like db5k. 2am. 4men.davichi

    Less rookie idol rappers

  17. ..no more intial acronym number names with fandoms sounding just the same

And no raps (I really don't understand why Kpop idol music HAVE to have a 'rapper' & rap? Why? It kills songs)

  18. This isn't about the music itself but I would get the fuck rid of allkpop. Anything other than that. I mean, retard 중2병들 on tumblr might even be alright if Johnny Roh wasn't making money off of Kpop.

BTW, if you guys didn't know, 3~4 years ago, AKP was just like AKF. True story, not joking. Most of AKP used to be about Johnny Roh wanting to fuck Shin Min-Ah, Hyori, or Tifanny in the ass or making fun of K-pop or Korean people in general. I mean, not that I hate that, but now Roh's making millions off of translating shit, two lines of text that I can't even call journalism while he doesn't even like K-pop? I've got loads of problems with that.

So I'm just thankful that AKF made the rational choice reverting the blog the way it was when I first visited it. (BTW, I haven't been on this blog in 3 months, thankyouverymuch)

  19. No more obligatory rap parts in every fucking song. Like Super Junior H, that was the dumbest. Also releasing a new "album" and it has like 1 new song, and 5 remakes.

  20. I'm sorta sick of Korean indie bands being the ONLY form of rock music. I'm such a heavy metal girl. Industrial, death, thrash, doom, black, progressive, metalcore, cookie monster and yet the only Korean metal band I can find is Crash. TOTAL FUCKING DISAPPOINTMENT.

The rock I prefer is had rock like Life of Agony beats the bullshit out of FT Island.

Korea censorship is to blame I learn that while looking for metal. They wont allow bands like Slayer or Cannibal Corpse most likely not even Anthrax or Trivium...seriousl Koreans how do you live there ....how do you live?
