Idol rap

So the other day, I stumbled upon a post by  presumably  a fangirl. Well...in truth, i don't know and that's not the problem. However, seeing those people trying to reason it out, is just painful and hopeless. I wasn't sure what he/she was thinking, but it really amuses me.

Now, one might think that it was a troll. I thought so too, until i saw the signature. Team Hwayoung2012. Ohhh, it makes sense! Hwayoung is a lot better than Miryo. She rikey rike that [idea] ^.^

Before you start jumping at me the fact that I don't understand any [fucking] Korean to judge a rapper. Sure,  I agree with that statement. But overall, I don't judge idol rap...as most have been pre-written by other people. I don't mind listen to idol rap, but i do not miss hearing them either.

Fangirls and their limited hip hop knowledge just amuse me too much these days. Good thing I have John oppar, Dr. Dre, and Chucko opparchan to help me out.

Aside from that, I admit that Korea do have many talents when it comes to jazzhop producing, which is  one of my favorite genre currently. Hope this post can expand your horizon a little, and find the beautiful instrumentals, voices outside of idol rap. If it doesn't, excuse me for another useless post.

  3. Only decent idol rappers are Zico, Miryo, Bang Yong Guk, L.E., and Juicy or however the fuck you spell it. Zelo probably has the best delivery but I excluded him because Guk writes his shit.

At least Jongup(I think his name) is hot.
Can't take Zelo and yonguk srsly tho after never give up. Zelo has a damn annoying tone and reminds me of GD, but not as bad. Hopefully his balls will drop soon but he's Asian so that wont happen til his 20 :/
And no, bap aren't true artist LOL.

  4. I wish that x was to erase that bitch from existence. I bet she thinks Minho and Key are better than Pac and Biggie because they have more energy and versatility.

    1. Anyone who thinks CL is good at rapping is a BJ and those who think that Hyuna and Amber can rap are just stupid.

  6. Shit, I remember stumbling on that post in Hallyu8 not too long ago. Major facepalm moment. I was tempted to ROFL at her ass.

  7. He/She ranked Jia in there? What the hell. And going by his/her deciding factors of delivery, aggression, etc, how is Amber still above Miryo, she fails in all those aspects too. The entire post was just ridiculous. Except for the fact the lyrics part, that was sensible at least.

I would say the only decent idol rappers are Zico, and yeah no one else comes to mind.

(I think Imma go on that thread and say Tiffany unnir is the best rapper out there, her delivery is best, no?)

    1. I meant him/her not understanding lyrics so not being able to judge part, not the miryo is not that great for writing her own lyrics part, that's just stupid.

  12. I can never take any idol rappers seriously. My choice of music is usually Jpop/J-music and omg when I see fan girls all like "OMG KOKI IS THE BEST RAPPER EVER!!!" I'm like...... you simply don't listen to rap so of course you'll think this non-black pretty boy Johnny (well.. Koki is very hot #^^#) is an awesome rapper because I bet many think American rappers are just tough scary thuggy-lovin cursing all the the time blackys who don't rap about important stuff (well.. many don't) or can't even fanthom that real legit Japanese rappers exist and they're most likely 'wannabes' so.... yeah (the same notion many have toward Kumi) It's so annoying *sighs*

  13. Even if I look past the worthlessness of discussing idol rappers, Jia even being considered, is just plain wrong.

  14. Those were rankings based on the choices given by the OP...

    1. Also now that I think about it I don't know why there are so many users who frequent K-Pop boards (which are obviously going to be idol-heavy) just to disagree with everyone's favorites and then tell them why the token 3 rappers are superior (Tiger, Miryo, Tasha) and/or list off some no-namer indie rapper/singer. I don't see any problem with the screenshot besides the bookmarks by the Oh-So-Holy-Rap-Critic. What is rap if not about energy? Conviction? Lyrical content? The list given was organized because -those were the choices given in the thread-. A lot of you just need to get off your high horses.

Idols imitate rap on a superficial level both in image, intellect and music. Korean underground rappers are the best candidates to find a more authentic style of K-hip hop without all the glittery fluff. The only issue the market isn't diverse and big enough to allow both to exist.

Idols spoon feed the obsessive superficial K-pop culture and its often socially deprived listeners. While underground Korean hip hop consist of actually rappers producing and promoting their own music. Their listeners are everyday people like k-pop fans but don't have that obsessive fandom behavior.

If you're gonna be a rapper, you gotta hustle your music and image. Idols are molded and control by their labels. It doesn't matter how much they express creative writing input. At the end of the day the label has finally say and they don't go to battle with them over what is heard and what is cut from an album.

A lot of rappers who firmly believe in their work and image will battle their label to maintain or settle on a compromise. If the worse is to come, move on to another label that will allow them to have artistic freedom. Idols don't have that type of motivation in them yet because their market doesn't allow it. Korean underground rappers have no choice but to fully believe in what they are doing, if they wanna be heard and eat.
