  2. I still don't understand what SM is trying to do with this group and all 78389321 subunits

    1. they're trying to do the same thing SM always wants to do - have a group that persists through member changes

it's what Super Junior was meant to be. they were supposed to have different line-ups each year, hence SJ05, SJ06, but fans got upset after they added Kyuhyun ("Only 12"). the fans eventually accepted him but then when it looked like Henry and Zhou Mi might join they got upset again ("Only 13") and they never joined fully.

so having a group that, from the very outset, is about having different line-ups for different concepts in different languages (and SM has a massive hard-on for Chinese market potential) is perfect from a business perspective, 'cos they don't have to worry about adding young, fresh members/"graduating" old members/military service/members getting poached by Chinese agencies.

(that last one is probably most important, because SM is a business and invests a lot of money producing these groups. if it was up to the fangirls who fall for all the "slave contract" emotional blackmail, there wouldn't be any more idols)

problem is, I don't think that having a deliberately fluid line-up will generate the rabid fandom SM got with DBSK, SJ, Shinee and EXO. NCT will be big, because it's SM, but they'll never be huge

    2. SM put some of the popular members from NCTU in this unit, so a lot of fans who are interested in the members who have already debuted will check out this unit too. They will use some popular members from this unit, NCT127, for another unit too, etc, so more members will get popular and will receive attention.
I agree with everything you wrote but one thing: I think SM is trying to pander to the "one member stans", that could be rabid fans as well who will spend a lot of money on that member (or those members) they like. This idea could lead to lucrative results, if it will end up working. Honestly, I feel like this Korean AKB48 will get really popular.

    3. Well we all know what did that do to JPOP which is killed it's influence and further fueled by a cynical gay journalist in New York who rubs off on how J-Indie will take over.

  4. NCT is like the reverse of Red Velvet who had a god-awful debut followed by a good song. This song and "Happiness" should never get together. Oh god.

    1. I'm not sure if you're saying Happiness is good or bad, but Happiness was a fun song and imo the only really good RV song.

  5. The "fire truck" is kinda funny, but other than that it seems like the usual generic boyband K-pop to me.
