You Don't Have To Agree With Fei. You Don't Have to Hate Fei.

With China and the SEA recent activities a lot of Chinese-born idols have been showing support for China and because of it I see two extremes of people coming out and both look stupid. On one hand, you have people hating Fei because she supports China, then you have people hating on the people hating on Fei because politics doesn't define her as a person. And honestly, they're both missing the point.

The reason why I restrained myself from talking about politics in my Fei review was because it had absolutely nothing to do with the music. Had it not have been Fei, but a completely different idol I would have the same exact reaction pretty much. It would have nothing to do with the article so that'w why I'm saving it for here.

You don't have to agree with Fei. You don't have to hate Fei.

It appears a lot of people don't know how Chinese politics works. I admit myself I am NO expert but after seeing so many celebs go through hell over there, and then what happened to a sixteen year old Tzuyu, it's easy to see that they take nationalism pretty seriously in China. That's not to say Korea, Japan, and the U.S. have no nationalism because they do. However the difference is that if this whole thing took place in the U.S. and Fei were an American artist, she wouldn't have to say shit. In fact, she'd be advised to stay silent. Even if she were to go on a Twitter rant about how stupid the U.S. is, she'd receive some backlash from trolls and that would be about it. But she isn't from the U.S., she's from China, and things are ran differently over there. Look at what's happening to Jolin Tsai and Charlene Choi just by staying silent? Can you imagine what would happen to Fei for speaking out against it? She has to think about more than herself, but her home and family.

But that's not to say that you HAVE to agree with Fei. You don't. If an idol posted up some pro-Donald Trump shit there is no way I would agree with them. You don't even have to like Fei if you disagree with her heavily. If someones views personally hurt you then you have a right to no longer be "attached" to them. Like when your favorite group starts to release shit song after shit song and you find it very hard to keep stanning them. People should understand this. However you shouldn't feel the need to hate on and demonize her. At the end of the day, she is doing what is the most safe for her and if it came down to it, if the situation where different, then she probably wouldn't have said anything.

Take Siwon for a prime example. No way in hell I agree with most of the shit that comes from his mouth/twitter and his God-bothering hypocritical ways are annoying as fuck. However I'm not going to start up an anti-Siwon website where all I do is post about how much I hate him and demand him to be removed from Super Junior. I just simply don't give any fucks about him.

At the end of the day, shitting on Fei's solo, going on her social media and putting her on blast, is not going to accomplish anything. In fact, most of us are so far away from even being in the position to accomplish anything regarding that because it so far out of reach.

I doubt anyone cares about my thoughts on this but let's just say I view extreme nationalism in the same light as an STD: avoidable but extremely hard to cure once spread. If at all.

  1. Well said, suho_ftw. All the hate Fei, Zhoumi and Victoria (and probably others) have been receiving is unfair and is getting so fucking old. If you disagree with their political views, stop being a fan and that's that. You don't have to go out of your way and dislike their music videos, leave hate comments and say offensive shit on their sns. It's not like it changes anything.

  2. In my opinion, the people that pressure others into posting nationalistic bullshit are at fault. Wether it being the family, peers, management or the public/people on the internet.

I'm surprised that Donnie Yen made such a statement. A guy that played the legendary Ip Man. Guess just because you play somebody, doesn't mean you actually learn anything from his philosophies.

I like Charlene Choi, Jolin Tsai and Jackie Chan. All three of them. Jolin is extremely hot and has some good songs. Charlene played in a few movies I liked and she's cute. And Jackie Chan is probably my biggest childhood hero.
I'd be disappointed if they had to come out with such a statement, though I know Jackie Chan, while growing up in HK, is pretty pro-Beijing.

  3. The general rule here in US is people expect the relevant celebs to all be democrat/left wing.

In this kind of scenario, JYP and SM should be actively distancing themselves from the political affairs and shut down any potential argument by doing something like disabling the comment and rating bar and telling the shows to do the same out of the respect that they are an entertainment business and partners who wants to say as business partners never discuss business or politics

  5. Speaking silent IS an option though as shown by Jolin and co. They will get trashed in the short term but after a few weeks nobody except the most dedicated haters would care. All the people going 'oh but they had to do it for their families' don't understand the ridiculously short memory of the general public. Staying silent is NOT the same as opposing the Chinese stance (a move which I agree would sink any Chinese artist's career).

Most people don't even remember that Jackson has stayed silent this whole time even though he's getting a shit ton of activities in China. And no it's not due to their US related shit happening at the same time, do you really think Chinese nationalists give a crap about the N word?

    1. When in the fuck did I mention Chinese Nationalist caring about Got7's controversy?

    2. A lot of fans were reasoning that Jackson was given a pass for not commenting on the ruling as he (and the rest of Got7) were laying low on SNS for their US shit even though only SJWs and tumblrwhales care about the 'N' word being dropped in an informal setting amongst friends.

    3. I don't understand why Jolin would be affected at all. Do Taiwanese people support anything from the mainland? Why expect Jolin to support this?

    4. Jolin is huge in mainland China. She and her company are making rain in China. China and Taiwan have a long history fighting on whether Taiwan is part of China. The map indicated that Taiwan is part of China. By not posting it, it could mean she support Taiwan as a one separate country.

    5. I'm not even Taiwanese and I support Taiwan's right to self-govern itself, though I doubt any Taiwanese UCAADs care what a Korean UCAAD thinks about their sovereignty lol.

  6. Wait... but... by making this article, you're joining the people hating on the people hating on Fei. Like you literally said "You dont have to agree with/hate Fei" so how is that different from people telling the haters that her political views bear nothing on her or her music?

    1. You don't have to go out of your way to hate on her. Point blank. That was the point of this article. Some people already had it made up in their minds that they were going to hate on Fei's release because of what she posted about China. That's not fair. If you don't want to be a fan, then just stop stanning. No need to be masochistic and force yourself to watch someone you don't like for whatever reason.
