Nayeon's Vibrator's Top 10 Songs of 2016 - #10 - Twice's Cheer Up

I'm going to do the top 10 list a little different this year. Instead of doing one post that lists all of my top songs in them, I figured I would try highlighting each song. It's December, usually the time of year when no one really tries in K-pop except to grab a few quick wons from Christmas ballads, so I'm starting the countdown a little early this year.

I have an Excel spreadsheet saved of all of the songs I liked throughout the year (yeah, true accountant here) and gave them a score on a scale of 1-10. There were probably a dozen songs that I ranked higher than "Cheer Up" based on first-listen impression. "Cheer Up" has been a song that went from "I like it, the girls look real cute in the MV, but it's not that great" to "I fucking love this song and have to watch them perform it a music show every day."

"Cheer Up" continues Twice's style of disjointed-but-really-addicting songs from "Like Ooh-Ahh" that was released in 2015. What makes me like "Cheer Up" is the bright and colorful melody to the song. Like the title implies, I always feel more cheery when the song comes on in my car on the way to work/on the way home. In general, Twice's title tracks remind me of why I got into K-pop in the first place - addictive, energetic songs that brighten up my day just a little bit.

I also can't forget the real reason why I like the "Cheer Up" era so much. It's the era that made me start sexually identifying as Nayeon's Vibrator.

  1. This song will go down in history as the moment TWICE emerged to truly dominate the new generation, the Gee of this era.

    1. You aren't the only one. This is absolutely their worst title track. Fucking Korea...

    2. I wouldn't call it "absolutely terrible", has some good parts but they connect not really well.

    3. I hate it too. It's just garbage to my ears

  3. Can't you just make one article with the entire list? Full articles that are thought of and done well, even if they take time to post, is honestly much better than snippets like these all the time. Just for the sake of having a post daily/3x a week? Hmm.

(Not mad though, it just feels too scattered and unorganized)

  4. This is song is actually horrendous, but I think the Twice girls are nice. Definitely wouldn't put it in my top 10 though. Tbh, this is more like the "less all-over-the-place I Got A Boy of this generation"

  5. I don't mind the "Lets release my list over a few days" thing, I'll definitely check back more often to see the updates. Also, I like Cheer Up. It has issues, but I don't care, it's catchy and it makes me happy, which tbh I think is all that matters in music. "Do you like it?" Just enjoy the things you like. I'd say this song is their worst title track though, not because I dislike it, but because I just like TT and OOH-AHH much more.
