[MV Review] Infinite H - Special Girl

One of the new subunits to debut this month. How does this turn out?

Woollim decided to spend some fucking money on the production of this mini album, mainly using the people from Amoeba Culture on the album. For those of you who don't pay attention to Korean music outside of idols, Amoeba Culture is Dynamic Duo's company, which houses, aside from themselves, Supreme Team, Primary, etc. So, with some actual hiphop musicians working on the album, I wanted to check this sub unit out.

I like the song. I haven't checked out the rest of the album yet, but if this song shows anything, this is a good step for idol rapping. If you have higher quality beats and people who can actually write lyrics (these two guys from Infinite didn't write any of the lyrics), the songs can become much more enjoyable. Before anyone says it, yes, they can't be considered "real" rappers since they didn't write their own rhymes. But it's much more preferable to have legitimate rappers write the lyrics for idols rather than idols writing their own raps. When idols write their own raps, you end up with shit like GD&TOP.

Onto the MV, it's gay as fuck. Seriously, a fruitcake from San Francisco would have a hard time watching this MV because it's that gay. The girl they picked to be in the MV isn't very good looking. Maybe Woollim thought people would be distracted by that awful pink hair and the terrible clothing, but no, I noticed that they picked a random girl off the street to be in the MV. Shame on you, Woollim.

  5. I love this song. Its one of Primary's laid back tracks. Vocals are great, OF COURSE ITS GREAT, its fucking Bumkey thats singing, my mangina is all wet from his voice. Rapping....still hurts my ears. Atleast the rapping doesnt feel like its an added extra and the lyrics actually FLOWS.

That said, after I finished listening to the song, I went to watch the MV.....wtfudgery is this shit. Cool to see Primary in the MV...but surpised to see Bumkey in disguise!!!

I know its a pop song, but, its a damn good pop song. Why, its because it was made by REAL artists.

  6. Keep in mind that Primary shits on every other Korean producer out there, so of course the song would be good. Poison, anyone?

  10. I'm just wonder why Woolim decided to go the aegyo route rather than the "charasmatic" sexy route. I was totally not expecting this kind of song. I don't really love it or hate it.

  11. The song is awesome and the boys look freaking hot.Well, they are a part of Infinite- the all kinds of talent and good looks,so that's not surprising. The girl was very...unpleasant to look at,but then again,I don't really care about her.Woolim never made anything that's not worth it~ :3

  15. After seeing the first teaser for fly high I was dissapoint at this being the MV style wise. Pretty sure Dongwoo wears an effing skirt at one point (during the scene where he walks to the girls door). To me the song itself is great, a step up from their song 'Crying' which was on INFINITE's full album.

I like the fact INFINITE use subunits/solos to actually show the different styles and talents the members have. Rather than slapping together a few members of the group to release a typical song that could've just been made by the whole group (and then just throwing in a few filler b sides) Woollim at least bothers to put thought into it. SungGyu worked with Nell along with having the chance to write his own lyrics on his mini, which suited him arguably better than the groups music. Dongwoo and Hoya get to work with some of the best Korean hip hop artists involved in every track on the album.

I found it interesting that given HY & DW write the raps on INFINITE songs (including title tracks) they didn't even write one the entire album. Maybe the track would have been shit but I think having one on there that they wrote themselves (or at least co wrote) would be helpful for them in terms of growing as actual artists (which they say they want to do).

Also given they're dancers, kinda surprised there's no hip hop dance track. Although given the sound of the album that would have stood out like a saw thumb and so is probably for the best.

I'm an Inspirit so sorry if I'm coming off too stan here but I like the group because by idol stands they seem to have a company behind them willing to give them decent songs for the entire album, making them very easy to listen to. The fact the members execute their stages well and are freaking hot is just an added bonus...

    1. Tl:dr I'm a biased as fuck Inspirit who unsurprisingly loves their mini. However given they worked with primary etc to make every song decent it seems like I'm basing my enjoyment from music quality not just OMG OPPARS SO DAEBAK.

  16. MV girl was from a season of Korea's Next Top Model. Personally I think she's quite pretty, but I don't think the lighting/camera angles/make up did her justice.

  17. my first time commenting on this site, so bear with me :D [just as a side-note: I love this site, btw. even as a K-Pop fan, it's refreshing to see other people's opinions. hopefully I can show that I'm not as biased as a lot of fangirls are...haha]
I agree; this subunit shows a lot of promise for the future. Maybe it's just my hardcore-INSPIRIT side talking, but I like everything about this debut [other than their lazy-ass name...argh].
And I enjoy every song on this album, which is pretty rare to encounter nowadays, particularly "Without You" and "Fly High". It broke the usual style INFINITE has, and they're making the most out of this debut - after all, they tried to reflect their own style, and it seems like it worked.
Again, I'm a hardcore INSPIRIT, but seeing how INFINITE H is getting a lot of positive reviews and comments [aside from the MV ^^;], maybe I'm not so delusional. I don't know.
    so, that's the end of my opinion/review/whatever you want to call it. sorry if it was lengthy ^^;

  18. I liked the song until it hit the "Cause you are my special girl" part. That killed the whole song for me. If it wasn't for those lines repeated ad nauseaum, I coulda enjoyed it.

  19. I love Inpinitu but I have never cared for these two as rappers. Unlike other idol rappers they can also sing so they get brownie points for that.

The song is too chill for my liking but I love the video . . . because Hoya is in it . . . and I would kick puppies, punch babies and assault old ladies for the chance to see/smell/touch/taste his peen.

  20. i have to say that i thought this was gay, and this isn't my favourite song (or my favourite album as a whole; it's nice, but not my favourite)but hoya is a gorgeous and dongwoo is adorable so i could sit through the mv

  21. Special Girl is good, just because of Bumkey's mellow voice, but the song with Zion.T is amazing imo because that man has a glorious voice!

    ZION T OPPAR, SARANGHAEYOOOO~!!1!~!!11!<3<3<3<#

  22. When i read the first paragraph, i smile very bright, but when i read the next one, why i think that you are judging them so badly? gay? don't you think that, the word is too harsh? Please think twice when you talk so much on blog bacause many people will reading your post. I didn't blame you, but i'm very disapointed that i've read this post so passionately before.
