Saturday Shitfest #3

Installment number three already. The first piece I wanted to talk about is how retarded Yang Hyun Suk is. He's creating a reality show to see which trainees get to debut.

I guess he never learned from our favorite CEO, Kim Kwang Soo. "Gee, unhealthy, dangerous competition within the company seems like a great idea. I only had T-ara become the most hated group in Korea, basically ruined 5dolls since most of the members left, and Gang Kiz has already disbanded."

    2. OMG! I was waiting for someone to bring them up! Once you look past the lameass stage names, their stuff is pretty decent. I don't get it, though, Rap Monster dude is actually fluent in English; how can he not point out 'Look guys, these names make us sound like pretentious cunts?'

Anyhow, No More Dream is pretty solid but personally, I prefer Bulletproof Part 2.

Oh, and I can't help it, but JIMIN'S ABS

    3. what the fuck does rap monster even do in this group, there are like three/four rappers (i still can't really tell a couple of members apart? idk) and everyone has more lines than him, his job seems to be just to wear sunglasses and speak one sentence occasionally.
do abs mean anything in the kpop world? he's just the one token member that works out a lot. kind of liked how they worked his abs into the choreo though, it was like a throwback to oh yeah.
i know that there's one member who really stood out to me when i watched the mv, i think its jong kook but i can't be sure.

    4. I like Bangtan, I get this vibe like they are 1tym reloaded sense more members are rapping than singing

    5. Yea Jong kook the maknae, he's a real cutie :3 IMO, the most talented too.

And nah, I reckon Rap Monster actually does contributes something. He used to be an underground rapper and writes lyrics along with Suga + J-hope; they've got a couple of predebut mixtapes on their channel. I see him as a more mild version of Zico.

Though, I fail to see the purpose Jin serves. He's supposedly the 'visual' and has the vocal role but there's nothing striking about his vocals at all; he literally gets 1 line and the whole badass/rebellious concept seems really forced on him, whereas it seems more natural for the others. I'd rather another rapper who can actually rap than a filler vocal.

    10. I think BTS is a pretty decent group. At least their shitty singers (Jin and V) aren't rappers too, which seems to be pretty common in idol groups, Hyuna being a good example. Hoe is useless (apart from sucking my dick).

Rap Monster is a gay stage name and I thought with that name he should have very good rapping skills. No More Dream (which btw, since he seems to be fluent in English he should know the correct version is No More DREAMS) doesn't really showcase any of it. Bulletproof Part 2 sort of does, but still not quite.

The lifting-mah-shirt move is fukking lame. This was being done in K-pop like in 2010 or something. No one does this shit anymore. No one even cares about abs, everyone and their dad has them nowadays.

J-Hope probably shares surgeons with Bom and Soeyeon, they all have the same noses. And Jin isn't actually that good looking, if you saw their showcase interview you'd notice his jaw is crooked and goes to one side (and I agree, the concept doesn't suit him). Jong Kook is better looking than him but still doesn't make the cut due to his yellow ass teeth.

    6. University isn't that bad, unless you're an Engineering student. You have way, way more free time than in High School.

Also Chuck here doesn't waste his time doing stuff like drinking himself stupid and partying with dirty dogs from the ghetto so that is a bonus.

Honestly though if you don't procrastinate, you have SO MUCH TIME, even with a job and/or other obligations. I just graduated and if I could offer anyone advice, it is that procrastination is the number one grade and social life killer. It's better to have a drug habit than procrastinate, if I may be so honest. The vast majority of people, even the "good" students (like myself) were completing assignments days or even the night before they were due. Needless to say, that is extremely stressful and your quality of work suffers greatly. I managed to scrape a 3.7 overall GPA (which is pretty fucking good considering how much time I wasted being drug/high/partying/sleeping) but only because I was really good with the material. Other kids, not as lucky.

If you start a project on the day you get it, read all the books ahead of time, pay attention in class and ask questions, you will have oodles of time to do whatever you want, and peace of mind. And it's really not that hard, if you're getting bored with the material, you should consider changing to a different major, something that you love and enjoy.

Besides that, get involved. Join a club, or student government, or do charity work, or broaden your skill base. Chuck administers a website and writes articles for Soompi and here, which is great in the future if you need to communicate with people (and you will). Obviously I don't think he'll be showing off this site in his resume or portfolio (unless he plans on working for the first Korean porn start-up) but it's valuable nonetheless. I did Model United Nations and became a really good public speaker; I made two hundred bucks for like two hours of work tutoring the child of some rich Korean fools who wanted him to have a bomb-ass valedictorian speech. And he did.

So yeah. Don't procrastinate. Trust me.

      Delete
    7. Yeah, Nathan is right about procrastination. I did it my freshman year, but luckily it was a bunch of easy classes and I still managed to get a 4.0. After that, I started doing shit as early as I could, with the exception of group projects, since scheduling is largely out of one's own control.

I don't want to sound like a egotistical narcissist bragging, but I'm majoring in finance with a 3.88 GPA and I still have plenty of time to do things that I want to. Even with doing group projects and doing 75% of the work, I still have the time to other things.

Like Nathan said, if you use your time wisely, you'll have more free time in university than in high school. If I was in high school, I wouldn't have had the time to run this blog because with 35 hours of school a week, 20 hours of work a week, hanging out with friends and playing sports all the time, and playing video games the rest of the time, I would have had zero time for AKF back then. But university is different. 12-18 hours of school, depending on how many classes you take, and up to 20 hours of reading, doing homework, working on projects, etc. I never had to really study that much, but I would always be reading to gain knowledge, even going to the library and reading extra material. I mainly had to pull all of the weight on group projects several times. I can only name two classes where I didn't have to do a majority of the work on a group project.

So, there's 30-40 hours of my week gone (counting commuting to school and back since I live at home to save tens of thousands of dollars), there's plenty of time to do other things. I had a job my first two years in college, but quit before I transferred to my current university. Like Nathan said above, there's plenty to do with that free time. I tried joining several clubs, but they aren't for me, mainly do to me being introverted and hate being around people for hours at a time, and for the fact that most of the clubs I wanted to be a part of held their meetings either at 7 pm or 8:30 pm. I live 45 minutes from my school, so arriving home at 11 pm after a meeting isn't ideal.

So I chose to expand my skill base. I started AKF in 2011 and have learned a lot just from running this blog. While I could never put AKF on my resume for obvious reasons, there are other things I can put on my resume. I run Yeoshindeul and Hallyu Interview, where I translate Korean and Japanese articles, news, interviews, etc. I also translate stuff for Karaholic. For Soompi, I write articles and do some translating there. While I had originally learned Korean and Japanese just for music and dramas, I was able to put my knowledge to actual use. Will it necessarily help me when getting a job? Maybe, maybe not. I'm applying to be a financial analyst, and as far as I know, I would start off doing work on domestic companies for years before I got a chance to do financial research on foreign companies. But I'm someone with two usable languages (not fully fluent, as that would take more time), but I know the languages well enough to do translations and do normal, everyday conversations. I chose to do that over joining clubs, which I didn't like.

So yes, if you don't procrastinate in university and spend all of your time doing stupid shit, you'll be fine. If you're diligent, you'll have plenty of free time do to whatever you want.

    9. no i didn't go to hs in kolea but i did go to a school with a reputation for "excellence"

well i feel bad now cause i'm pretty much the worst procrastinator on the planet; i think my ccgpa for high school is 3.88 which is okayish but our school grades much more harshly than the actual board does, and they predicted i would get a 4.0 in the finals that are externally marked, let's see i guess. everyone in my school is always burnt out from stress so it becomes like a game; when there's an assignment due you log onto facebook just to show everyone you're online at 4:30 so that they know they're not alone.

but i only really procrastinate on the shitty subjects that i was forced to take; i'm going to study design and i'm pretty much always working on my art, idk i don't think i procrastinate when i really give a fuck. the problem is that college is going to be much harder than hs for me cause i'm on a very large scholarship that i have to keep and i have to get a job and stuff while i'm there i just hope i can manage it ughhhh

    10. As an engineering student, I have to say during my first two years, I pretty much have the same time spent in uni as what I spent in high school, seriously, I had a day where I came in at 8AM and finished at 9PM, with about 3 hours break scattered throughout the day.

Depending on how your high school was, I'd say prepare to get shocked (for like the first semester or so), since you will be busier with assignments. During my first semester, I had like a lab report plus journal summaries, you need to do pre lab exercise every other week when it's not lab report, plus this group project thingy that you have to do for sustainable design or those shit, it was quite hectic, plus the unavailability of teachers compared to high school (my teacher was always ready to answer my questions, these lecturers are busy as fuck).

During my third year now (entering fourth year after this break), I'd say classes are getting significantly fewer, but subjects are getting more alienated a.k.a wtf is this. Procrastination is your biggest enemy like everyone said, I did that too, and I know it's hard to have self-discipline for me at least. Now I can go to gym for 3 times a week and work 3 days a week (Sat,Sun and Thurs), so yes, it's not as busy.

I am an introvert too, so I rarely go out of my house (except going to gym), I play LoL at home a LOT.

Another thing I do is I actually listen to the lectures, maybe it's my speciality, but when I actually listen, I can almost remember it for like weeks (not all, but you won't need to read the lectures and go wtf is this, plus its quicker). Also, I really recommend asking your lecturers about stuff you don't understand or unsure after the lecture itself, it helps, alot. PLUS if you get to know your lecturers quite well, you can have them as a referee on your resume.

And AKF, I really feel sorry for you, there's nothing worse than staring at the ceiling the whole night trying to sleep, and getting frustrated, which making you more unable to sleep, it's depressing.

    11. Sex, drugs and alcohol solves that problem!

I'd like to reiterate the point about getting to know the Professors and anyone else. Even if you're introverted, just do it! I'm introverted (to an extent) but I tried to engage as much as possible with the faculty and other students. As a result, I have professors who are more than willing to write letters of recommendation and offer career opportunities.

Also remember one of the best cures for social anxiety is drunkeness. Not that I recommend turning up to school hammered or anything, but hey.

      Delete
    12. lol when you're introverted, the closest thing you would have sex with is your hand.

I have no luck with friends here, my friends doesn't drink and they think fapping is a sin and I would go to hell cuz of it. Lone drinking ftw!

      Delete
    15. ahh i kinda get what you mean haha but tbh that's exactly the kind of thing i want to avoid when i'm at college.
doesn't everyone use the term friends loosely though? i mean when you're in an institution you kind of put up with the group of people that you absolutely.have.to see every day because its just so much easier to make nice than to hate them. i've kinda realized recently that my parents might have been right about my friends and that they do basically walk all over me, idk maybe the whole go-to-college-leave-everyone-behind thing is coming at a good time.

    18. @Man Tits Nathan and I enrolled at junior/community college before transferring. I had a full ride scholarship to a university to learn game design (I was big into games before Kpop), but they tried dicking me over, so I had no choice to go to community college because going to a normal university would have been too expensive at the time.

You save so much money by doing the CC route anyway. Tuition is half price and you're not forced to live on campus your freshman year, so you end up having to pay 1/4 of the price. The first two years of a business administration major is a waste of time anyway (mainly took some very basic business classes and a shitload of electives) before having to take any courses in my specialization (finance) my junior year when I transferred.

Even if you don't join a club, the people in your class will also share similar interests, for upper division courses at least.

    22. It depends on what you take, how much you take, and how sure you want the A to be. Plus, high gpa only tell half the story. Depend on majors, some require a lot of researching and publication to solidify yourself. If you can publish something meaningful(for mine at least), and don't fail any courses, then gpa is meaningless. But then again, they do require a lot of dedication, and months of going back home around midnight.

      Delete
    23. Procrastination isn't that bad if you work well under pressure though. I study for tests the night before or the day of and write essays the last minute. Still have a 4.0 GPA. Depends on the person really and I'm not trying to brag, but wanted to point that out. Don't put too much importance over grades though. As long as you pass, who really even cares? Take it easy, don't stress yourself out over something so insignificant.

    4. They need to stop trying to fit people from these TV shows into the idol scene. (what follows is some probably poorly explained observances, but stick with me)

the idols we normally see got accepted into academies after going through multiple auditions and call backs, in private. only then are the best of the best of the best put into an academy, where they're suddenly in amongst other kids who were also the best of the best of the best. no-one is famous, they're all merely another trainee who needs to keep improving just to stay in the system. they would have had illusions of being a celebrity beforehand, but in the academy they're dealing with long, hard work for little pay, dealing with contracts, being told they're not good enough and need to improve and so on, so by the time they might actually debut they already have something of an understanding of the industry.

then you've got the people who come through these public contests. they go in with illusions of being a celebrity, like the idol trainees above, except they're being exposed to perhaps millions of people in primetime TV, the ones who succeed get voted for by the public (basically telling them 'wow, you're so good and deserve to be here') and becoming famous already. they've had images of being a celebrity, their experiences on the show reinforce that, THEN they're having to face the reality of being in the music industry. This is the problem for the company. do you debut them as soon as possible, capitalising on their short-term fame while they're completely unprepared for the harsh realities, or do you hold them back, lose momentum, and put them in a system where they're suddenly shown they're not good enough & need to improve?

the above is half why i'm completely against YG's proposed tv show for his new boy groups. the other half is that it's just going to feel like a circus.

    1. You have to know people and make good content. Eventually, people will come.

Before I started AKF, I had plenty of friends from Tiara Diadem, Soompi and allkpop/6theory. By the time I started AKF, I already had an audience. Some of them helped spread the site and others joined the site to help me write. After a couple of months of posting a lot on forums, more people started coming, and finally, AKF was being spread by word of mouth. Then more and more people started coming here, more and more people started becoming chat regulars, and that's how I was able to get new authors.

If you check out the authors list, I knew Antidelusionalkpopfanism, Davidfresh, Lickmypunani, Suckmydee and Ahjussi before starting AKF. After that, most of the authors applied via application, but I met Zaku and Reehji through 6theory and they became authors. sulli_fag, Nathan(Combat Baby) and Soyeon Friend became chat regulars, and that's how they became authors. Since Fany is Soyeon Friend's wife, that's how I was able to get her to become an author.

    2. Imagine the AKF website as a manga. Yah now, I can only imagine Soyeon Fapboy as the main antagonist and akp as an evil company and akf as the aloof smart ass and shinbi as the sweet awkward nerdy girl and sulli fag as the creep(not that this is how you guys actually are irl or online idk how u ppl are). Taking down fangirls(boys)one(or many) article at a time.

      Tl;dr dumb amateur idea.

  18. I've watched the Girl's Day "Female President" video, and the song and video are okay. The only thing I have a problem with are the butt shots. It's a bit much. Sexy is fine, but overexposure just makes them look cheap.

    3. the hooker outfits is a bit much, but apart from that i really liked it. song is nice and catchy, and the lyrics are like a direct response to Dal Shabet's "Oppar Pls Rape Me" song

    4. what i don't like about the song though is that the lyrics are like explicit statements; i prefer the secret songs that imply a strong/liberated woman.
idk about the outfits though i suppose it makes sense in an ironic way if they wanted to piss off overly conservative people (LOUD AND CONSPICUOUS COUGHING WHILE I SAY MOGEF) and say that they can do what they want while wearing what they want and its their fucking business, but of course they didn't mean it in an ironic sense and they just want the old creepy men to watch the tight young pussy

    5. Or guys who think the JPOP industry don't really deliver. Seriously, acting conservative in KPOP is a death sentence most of the time these days. But then again, MOGEF is sort of like a heavyweight boxer wearing weights on his fit...just to make the other guy think he had a chance when really, they never did and without MOGEF, KPOP will let out all of the guns and run Japan out of business.

    6. Another disappointing effort by Hurl's Day. Now I don't mind a bit of a$$ in my face but there should at the very least be a good song attached.

What happened to the Nothing Lasts Forever? They weren't popular when that was released so it didn't make much of an impact but if they were to release something as equally awesome now, they could actually move up in the world.

They know Korea. Ass shaking isn't going to get you far, Korea is too conservative for that shit. The only way you'd get away with it is if you have a great song. This is not it.

    7. If only they had the body and talent :/ but they dont. The girl with the short hair looks ugly and awkward looking.

    8. They're trying so hard to break through their cute image.

Nothing Lasts Forever was a good song but like others, it was Twinkle Twinkle that got me into the group. Don't Forget Me is another great song and I blanked Oh My God from my mind lol. Hug Me Once was pretty meh

Expectation was good but it grew stale pretty quickly. Not too sure what I think about their new single, tbh I was expecting less frivolous lyrics for a title such as 'Female President', but since it's Kpop I was also kind of expecting the I Don't Need a Man thing all over again. The song is catchy, I'll give it that, but they're trying way too hard

I recommend nothing less than half a handle of the trashiest vodka per occasion. Frequently used to splendid results.

  21. Nana looks like a Russian slut in First Love performances. Seriously put me off. She's hot face wise but upon further inspection, she's too square and her body is a bit manly. Kaeun needs to go also. She's on the same level of ugliness as Zinger.

Girl's Day comeback sucks, couldn't even properly fap to Sojin because Miss Piggy was all up in the MV with that terribad haircut.

Hyorin, Soyu, and Dasom need to go.

4minute gets shittier and shittier with each comeback. What the fuck does "Is It Poppin'" mean? Winning so many times with What's This Shit only encouraged another similar garbage song. Sad that Jihyun is the only good looking member and she's useless as fuck. Sougly needs to get on that PS though. Her face and clear attention craving pisses me off.

    1. I'm sorry, russian slut is a bad thing?
Nana's still eyecandy to me and she's one of the only reasons to watch First Love performances, the other reason being pole dancing, especially Nana pole dancing.

fap to Sojin??? really? Did you mean to say Yura? Hell, I would fap to Minah before I fap to Sojin.

4minute was always a C-rate group, and Jihyun is not good looking. Neither is Hyuna but i'd still put her before Jihyun

    2. Nana also comes off as arrogant to me.

Yura is just the typical pretty idol. Sojin is hot. omfg Hyuna looks like a dead chipmunk, she couldn't possibly be better looking than Jihyun but it's useless arguing about looks anyway, can't really defend properly

    3. Her bitch face vs Jungah's is much hotter though when you guys did the baddest female competition. Uee's "hooker bite" was pretty meh, slightly emotionless, Liza didn't know if she wanted to be cute or be like Rihanna with that sidehawk of hers and Kaeun was Jungah who like Lizzie couldn't decided if she wanna be cute or sexy. E-Young and Jooyeon are pretty standard but Raina would have nailed it if only she had maximized her garter strap advantage on her leather dress and looked like a real hooker.

And Jihyun lost her title as the sex appeal of 4minutes ever since the B2ST comeback and Hyuna's more sexualized than Jihyun as much as I love her screentime. Too late to turn back the clock though, since Hyuna now is more popular than her entire band combined.
