This was coming a mile away ever since the beginning of the year when it was revealed Rain was banging Kim Tae Hee. There will no longer be a distinction between celebrity soldiers and normal soldiers, so these guys won't get 150 vacation days anymore, let alone state-sponsored trips to massage parlors.
While Rain doesn't give a shit since he won't have to deal with the consequences of being a normal soldier, he (and Se7en) ruined it for everyone else, especially all of the 1985ers that will have to enlist soon.

DeleteI'm kind of surprised it took this long for them to decide not to have celebrity soldiers. When I first got into k-pop in 2008 there were a few guys getting in trouble for special treatment & taking too many vacation days. I guess all the publicity with the more famous celebrities finally took them to the edge...

DeleteDunno where you heard about it ending in 2020, but it's not going away anytime soon. There was talk about it being reduced a couple years back, but the Cheonan sinking and bombing of Yeongpyeong shitcanned the idea.
DeleteAs AKFG said, it's likely only going to be abolished when the DPRK collapses - and even that's doubtful since they need a load of troops to 'occupy' the country, disarm the DPRK's army, kill off any fanatics that resort to guerrilla warfare, assist in humanitarian efforts etc.
