Is it ethical? Probably not. Is it smart? Definitely. I don't know what goes on through the mind of a celebrity, but maybe they see fans buying them gifts as a payoff for having sasaeng fans follow them around and have their underwear stolen when least expected.

Don't most idols get gifts from their fans? The only times I remember it being a problem was Crayon Pop collecting money and U-Kiss getting Diablo 3. It might be soliciting, but it's a rather common practice.

DeleteWell, most idols don't have a pot to piss in...You don't make money as an aritst unless you go on tour but most idol groups hardly have enough fans to make touring possible and so mini concerts aka glorified fan-meetings take their place. And unless your'e SNSD, 2PM, KARA, T-ara, BigBang or Infinite, you're really not getting any big name/worthwhile endorsement to generate cash flow.
