[MV Review] Dal Shabet - "B.B.B."

Dal Shabet returned this week with the group's latest single, "B.B.B." In a sharp change from most modern kpop, the song is a synthy dance track.

Lawl, just kidding. They're all like that.

How does this one compare to the legions before it?

"B.B.B.," which stands for "Big Baby Baby" in case you were wondering, sounds straight-up '80s. If you took Dead or Alive's "Spin Me Round," the Eurythmics' "Sweet Dream," Salt N' Pepa's "Push It," and "Generic Kpop Song #428" and put them in a blender, you'd get Dal Shabet's new song. I'm not saying this is a bad thing. The song is fine if a bit forgettable. Honestly, it's the only other Dal Shabet song I care to listen to after "Supa Dupa Diva" (and I file that one strictly under the guilty pleasures label).

As far as the video goes, I'm torn. It's like 35 percent artsy piece with word overlays and campy wigs, 35 percent bland in-a-box kpop video, and the rest closeups of Serri. I love the overlays. I tolerate the bland backdrops. But I can't deal with that much Serri.

I'm sorry, but your excruciating little face is too much to handle.

As far as the appropriateness of the song and concept for the group, "B.B.B." fits Dal Shabet pretty well. It might have worked slightly better for Nine Muses as its concept overlaps considerably with "Wild" and Nine Muses' overall sound, but it works nonetheless. The stylings in the video fit the individual members great. The girls are dressed in feminine yet mature outfits with pops of color and glitter here and there. It's flattering and appropriate. Basically the opposite of the look the girls had to sport for "Be Ambitious":

I'm still mortified for them.

Sparkle eyebrows and all, "B.B.B." showcases a better look.

BOTTOM LINE: "B.B.B." is one of Dal Shabet's better songs, though nothing to foam at the mouth about.

  1. I really disliked the song because of all the BIG BABY BABY or whatever it was thrown in there. Lot of promise, but the Engrish pushes me away.

Might as well dust off those Eurythmic records and listen to Sweet Dream instead.

    1. Lol, I think the "Big baby baby" part is what hooked me. Much like a cult's chant, I felt compelled to keep listening because of it.

Hmmmm ... maybe Dal Shabet's just trying to brainwash everyone.

  2. I really liked what Dal Shabet released in 2012, but with this song and Be Ambitious, I can see why no one really cares about them among Kpop fans.

  3. Meh. Song's ok, video's a mess. Words are too distracting if anything. It´s like a bad job on subliminal messages video.
I really wanna like Dal Shabet, mainly cause Wohee and Subin, but besides 'Have, Don't Have' I have no reason to.
PD: MV @ 2:15 - "RIVE"? Can someone explain this to me.

  5. The only thing I like about this song/MV is their clothing/style.
Also, if the title would have been other than B.B.B (Big Baby Baby), I could easily be hearing 'dick baby baby'.

  9. So here I am listening to this song and thinking that the chorus reminds me of another song, so I decide to look that song up and see if they're really all that similar, and I stumble upon an mv of the band recorded in some japanese city, a really cheesy interpretation of Godzilla apparently. Funny thing is, if you look at the minute 2: 24 of the video (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=djjw3BKUV28) you can clearly hear how they are speaking korean. So that's the story of how I found that a korean group was plagiarizing a song the mv of which features the band, which are british, speaking korean in japan while killing godzilla.

Also, not enough Jiyul in that song.

    1. This is literally the most ridiculous plagiarism claim I have heard from anyone anywhere.

    2. You're right, I guess what I ment to say is that the chorus of the two songs kind of remind me of each other, I'm not saying it's plagiarism but rather a connection I make in my head

  10. FYI: http://antikpopfangirl.blogspot.de/2013/11/okay-so-ill-do-another-blog-about.html

Besides that, I realy like that song, eurodancebeat, catchy breathed voices and the videoconcept is also ok...the downside is that the repeating of Big Baby Baby starts to be annoying, that breastrubbing-move is just hilarious and the video didnt keep up to what the teasers promised. Still a good one.
