Another rookie group appears out of nowhere, and I found myself nodding along to the song. The beginning is a little slow, but picks up 20 seconds in and becomes a lot more interesting. I find this to be a pretty strong for a rookie group, as I have witnessed so many failures with debuts (Girl's Day, Rainbow, just to name a couple of names).
The group's name is pronounced as 'One Piece', just like the manga. Not the best name to give to a group, but the initials make it worse. Will people read it as such names like "One Plastic Surgery", "One Piece of Shit", "One Penile Sausage", or "One Pussy Squirt"? That's the risk you take when you give your group a name based on initials.
I figure that a lot of oldfag Kpop fans like myself will probably like this, as this is a more modern version of what Kpop was like before Wonder Girls came out with Tell Me. I know that there will be plenty of people who like this song, but for very different reasons. "Oh, they sing well, I like them!" to "They sing well, but do it without vocally masturbating throughout the whole track, so I like them!" to "They're not doing a trashy sexy concept, so I like them!" to "I'm an oldfag in Kpop, so I like them!" to "I'd pee in their butts, so I like them!"

ReplyDeleteidk what it is about this group and song but i actually bought this from itunes. both of their songs are up beat ballads with a tiny jpop feel to them. its like the best mixture ever created. and yena is all ive been staning for about three days now. go look at their interview thingy. they are funny too.

ReplyDeleteAs someone who only got into K-pop like, 3 years ago, I really enjoyed this debut. It's not trying to shove some cute or quirky or sexy concept in my face, and the song is beautiful. I am quite impressed.
