Blast from the past: RIP 4minute

I just heard the news about 4minute disbanding and remembered my post from 5 years ago. Funny thing to note is that as of this writing Bubble Pop has 111 million views and Mirror Mirror has 11 million, so the 10x factor held true over years.

You had a good run, 4minute. Even though everyone jokes about "Hyuna & The 4minutes" I actually don't know anyone who doesn't like them. They are pretty badass ladies, lovable on stage and off.

    1. Welcome to Korean media news. They may have even fake news-leaked disbandment as a media play/test to see if anyone cares.

  5. Muzik & Hot Issue were right when I got into Kpop, so that era will always be the best for me. I know people dismiss it all as autotuned rubbish but I love it

    1. It was clear from the moment Red Velvet entered the scene that they were starting a new era. That doesn't mean they are most popular, just as Kara wasn't most popular. However, they brought the era and it belongs to them and they will be too good for what kpop deserves. As the new generation has been establishing itself with new popular groups, the old era will be dying off. That's how it works.

    2. Well said. And perhaps the dance groups will get more attention and have their moment as well. KPOP is in need of innovation, an underground and more fan service. Hyuna was an innovator. There r others out there

    3. I don't see how RV is the catalyst for a new K-pop era.

    4. Well goodbye to another fierce Girl Group. All hail the hyper Aegyo era led by Oh my Girl, Gfriend, CLC, Lovelyz and Cocosori

    5. @Unknown; I think you forgot A Plastic, the cancer that started it.

    6. Catalyst? No, that's not how it works. They just started the new era and it belongs to them, like the sun rising over a new day.

  8. The funniest fact is, despite I am sad and all, CUBE actually tried to keep the group together (as stated) but the girls decided to go. I always expected for CUBE to just toss them to the side, perhaps keep Gayoon or even JiYoon (aside from Hyuna, if she had no bigger offers) and keep the money-maker. As much as it hurts to admit it, I always remember that old piece you wrote, about how she made a lot more than the whole group together, and I knew it would be a key factor for CUBE to terminate their contracts, specially after the last come back financial results.

The only chance would've been if the girls really believed in the group and decided to remain together, but it seems everybody wanted different things in the end, so only Hyuna will stay. Can't blame them. Even if they only want a normal life out of idol-dom, I can't be mad. And if what they want is to have better chances as soloists, is obvious that they wouldn't get that by staying at CUBE as Hyuna's group mates.

There's the other factor about not generating the same media and public interest Hyuna does. But you never know what someone can do in a different enviroment and with different support.

  9. Although Wonder Girls helped me find Kpop, 4minute was the group that got me into Kpop. A little sad but it was going to happen eventually.

  11. It's natural and inevitable...the changing of a generation. The nugus are in full momentum right now.

  12. Disband train finally hitting a group I give a shit about, sad but inevitable. Still remember during my high school years that I thought 'MUZIK'was cool and started following the group. RIP 4min, one of the good girl groups out there
