Idol groups tend to have talented members and not so talented members. They coexist. In any given group you can name someone that can sing well (Taeyeon) and at the same time name a useless member (Yoona). While some members may be useless musically they might be useful in other categories, like eye-candy. This leads me to my rant...
Why the hell are members that aren't useful at all in idol groups? My first example is Shindong from Super Junior. It's not like they don't already have a shit load of useless members, and at least some of them are easy on the eyes. God he needs to get the fuck out of Super Junior. His fat ass can't sing, dance, or anything. He should just be a comedian like te other fat Koreans. Hyoyeon is also anothe useless member I find extremely annoying. She's so fugly and can't sing to save her life. D-fans (delusional fans as to not be confused with douche-fans) like to believe she is some dancing queen but she's pretty average.
It might seem like I'm picking on SM groups, but it's just because they generally have very useless members in their groups.
To keep it short, other members I find annoyingly useless are: Sulli (f(x)), Sohee (Wonder Girls), KwangHaeng (Coed), Kwanghee (ZEA), etc.
Who else am I missing?

Yea anyone who has watch a suju dance stage KNOWS SHINDONG is a good dancer even better than some skinny people in the group i think he's the 3rd best dancer in SJ.....And even i don't like SNSD but i know Hyoyeon is a good dancer (most female idol dancers just do sexy but she can do that and even popping{now go tell who u think is good to do that})

No, Sulli isn't really a good dancer either, therefore Victoria is visual for fx. It's weird how people say that 'Yoona is overated' 'Yoona can't sing' but at least she can dance. I never hear about Sulli being 'overated' while she can't sing nor dance....

ReplyDeleteI think Dara is the queen of Useless Group Member (in regards to being an artist. She excels in many other things... just not what's important in a music career). Pretty much anyone with the title of "the face" (*cough* Sulli) seems pretty useless for an artist since they usually can't sing or dance. They are generally very pretty though, so maybe they're better off leaving the music industry and just going into acting or modelling or guest starring in variety shows.

@Shin-B while in a musical aspect I agree with Your opinion about AS and t-ara but generally speaking for an idol group those members are eye candy or faces. They have somewhat more usefulness to them then the people I find to be even more useless than faces.

about shindong... i think he is the one who makes the difference between super junior and just an average boygroup with many members. its like in kindergarten. when the "pretty" boys allow the unloved fatty to play with them. as the kindergarten-teacher sees that she wont think "im so happy for the little fatty that he finally found some friends" but she will think "those pretty boys are really some nice kids to let him play with them".
the fatty makes the whole group appear more natural and kind if that makes sense, because he is more obviously than other idols just a normal person. also cause fatties have the image to be nice somehow. dont know why. and if you have some members with strong arrogant tendencies or arrogant charisma you need a counterbalance.
and other than that super junior are mostly an entertainment-group in general so they need a comedian as much as an decent singer.
just my opinion.

Even being a good dancer/actor/actress is not enough, when you pretend to be a singer you have to be a good singer first, being a good dancer/actor/actress as well is just a bonus.

Sunny, Hyoyeon, Yoona, Sooyoung, Tiffany's voice is masculine and mediocre, Jessica sings nasally and can't hold a tune, and Yuri are all useless and contribute nothing to the group. They have way more useless members than every other idol group in kpop, yet people still consider as the epitome of talent. If SNSD is the epitome of talent, then the gap between talent and shit shouldn't be too far off.

To the few assholes above me: Gyuri, Seungyeon and Jiyoung aren't completely useless. If anything, at least half of them aren't compared to SNSD. Besides Taeyeon and Seohyun, the rest wouldn't have a leg to stand on. And this is supposedly the so-called #1 kpop girl group, which indicates the standards set are pretty low.

Hara isn't useless because i'm betting that out of the 78% male fans they have..40% are hers with Jiyoung and Seungyeon diving the reaming 38% about 20/18; alot of Nicole and Gyuris fans are girls. There is only a matter of time before Jiyoung takes her "third popular spot" because that what Nicole is in Korea "third popular" (not first or second like intl fans will have you believe) and Nicole will be about as popular as Gyuri aka not popular...but like you said, Gyuri is useful to the group since she can hold a tune. And like you said, 3/5 aint bad..passing grade isn't it?..2/9 is failure.

I also find him quite a good rapper. I suppose there are those that don't qualify rap as singing, but I personally do.
It's true that he's not the most attractive person in the group, but from what I've seen, he has other qualities that make up for it. Such as his personality. I adore watching variety shows with (solely) Super Junior (and thus Shindong) in them because they never fail to make me laugh. I don't view them as a group that solely makes music, but also does
I don't really know much about the other people you mentioned as I'm not that into K-POP. There are very few groups that I like. I also only watch and listen stuff that is a bit older (2005-2010), as I don't really like the direction where K-POP is going. That's my opinion on it anyway.
The whole of 4minute is pretty useless. Hyuna can't rap, and the other members can't sing either. None of them are pretty.

snsd should be reduced to 4 members, taeyeon and tiffany, the only ones who can (barely) sing; and hyoyeon and yuri, who can adequately dance. The rest are completely useless, with yoona (who can't sing, dance or act) being most useless of all. I don't know why she is the "face" of the group when at least 7 other members are prettier and 4 of those have some actual talent.
