Why Doesn't Snoop Care?

As you may or may not have heard, Snoop Dogg was photographed with a good ol' Korean in black face.

"But why, Snoop?" you may ask. "Why don't you give a shit about this??"
First, let's give you some context.

I'm 99% percent sure this is some behind-the-scenes peek behind that Psy-Snoop Dogg MV collab in the works for Psy's impending comeback. This was photographed at Snoop's request. Snoop captioned this with the following:
"Stunt double. Hahahahahah. This nigha here !!
So as a black man himself, he should be more than aware of the history behind black face right? But if he posted this as a selfie on his Instagram, he's okay with it?

That means we all get our nigga privileges back amirite.

We've covered these race issues many times in the past, and Asian Junkie especially has done a ton of write-ups on the matter. I don't see the need to tell you why this is a bad thing, and why Snoop Dogg's selfie probably set "black people relations" back to the stone age, and why this will keep happening because Korea as a culture doesn't get why it's a bad thing.

Some might say he's trolling. Some say he's being paid not to give a shit. If you want my opinion, YG is probably keeping him supplied with trainees, won, and GD's weed stash to keep his mouth shut.

sm0ke weed every day
At any rate, the shitstorm that this will inevitably stir up will be fun to watch. Thanks Snoop oppa.

  1. Everyone's getting this wrong. This isn't "blackface", it's "Snoopface". "Blackface" isn't just "painting one's face black", it's specifically a derogatory racial parody. Blackface is insulting to black people because it's all about making black people look stupid and uneducated by parodying them as basic stereotypical cotton-picking watermelon-and-fried-chicken eating dumbasses, which were the thrust of the old pantomimies that used blackface back in American's past. However, this Korean guy isn't dressing up like a stereotypical plantation slave, he's dressing up like one of the most popular and most loved black entertainers in the US... probably because he's a fan. Nothing remotely insulting about it. It's a tribute and it should be taken as such. That's why Snoop is flattered and happy to pose with the guy for a photo.

    1. Don't worry, I already had that argument back when Boom dressed up as Stevie Wonder.

    2. these idiots need to stop putting BTS shit like this on instagram without context????? it's so much easier to be offended at this picture than it maybe would be in the video or whatever it's a part of. it's probably pretty harmless but anything funny that involves people of two different races will always be on the line between funny and offensive anyway because that angle makes great material for easy laughs, and a lot of ~totally not racist i have black friends~ people are going to jump to all the wrong conclusions because long ass tumblr posts make their swimsuit area all tingly

Honestly, I'm getting tired of the AsianJunkie comment section, it is turning in sone Livejournal community or some shit. Most of the commenters are just kids who seek public approval through the "upvoting" system. I generally like IATFB, he's a smart guy and he actually has a good point (same goes for zaku with this post) about education and how Korea needs to raise some awareness on these issues, but the fact is this kind of post generate traffic and comments, so no wonder he enjoys that. People is too busy pointing out how "racist" asians are, so they eventually end up fighting racism with even more intolerance, while they really need to stop for a couple of minutes and think of the meaning of their words. I deal with African and Asians migrants every day, and even though I'm white i KNOW what racism is. I know the struggle going on with this people trying to conduct a "normal" life in an hostile environment such as the Italian ground, and all these internet discussions really don't help at all. There's no doubt the entertainment industry conditions everybody's lives, but that's just a piece of a bigger puzzle. Sorry for my bad English, but I hope y'all get what I'm trying to say.

    8. Where are your reaction gifs.

I can understand people being offended by the photo, but I can't understand people turning to Snoop Dogg with the expectations of him missing a chance to speak out against blackface. Does he have some substantial hidden activist track record that I'm unaware of?

    12. Well said, Kpopalypse.

Judging by all the stupid comments I'm reading about this, I don't think most people understand what "blackface" is.

    13. i go to Asian Junkie, and yea, some of the new commentators/ commenters are very sheepish if you know what i mean. i still like the articles though and some commentors. i know it looks bad, but if he wouldve use better makeup, he couldve covered his acne with less foundation. just saying.

  2. Every time a blackface controversy arises the comments Kpop fans leave make me want to reverse bear trap my fucking face. Its as if they are all having a competition to see who can write the most idiotic and uneducated comment. "I'm so proud of the K-Pop fandom for taking a stand against blackface by cyber-bulling members of a culture who has never had any history with African-Americans"

  5. I don't understand how this can even be considered "Blackface". I don't see the man parodying African American stereotypes and presenting some sort of caricature? A black painted face is only "Blackface" if the intention is to be racially derogative.

  6. I don't see why blackface is considered racist. Yes, it's got a bad history. That doesn't mean everyone who paints their face brown does it with the intention of mocking black people. If it's just part of a costume, I see nothing wrong with it.

  8. I'm surprised people still keep up with Snoop Dogg/Lion XDI'm black and I find the dude on the right ignorant (not meaning ignorant as in stupid but ignorant as in he just doesn't know what he's doing is wrong.) but I don't think he meant anything racist by it. But I hope he at least learns that it's not nice. And blackface IS considered racist and insensitive, especially where I am from.

  9. snoops actually a really smart guy so I'm sure he could give two shits about some broke guy pretending to be him in horrible black-face. I know tons of black people who don't care. Most times I think it depends on the situation if they get upset or not. But Snoop? Nah, he's too old to care at this point. Also probably high as a kite....

  10. This reminds me of that time Yesung dressed up as that black guy that wears a coat and an eye-patch from The Avengers and ELF was split into two separate cults: the "oppa didn't mean it", and the "THAT'S RACIST LET'S ALL BASH HIM TO HIS DEATH". For a while I've been documenting a reasonable argument, but Kpopalypse's comment really explains everything.

  11. Black face is black face is black face. It's ignorant rather than hateful when we come to Kpop idols, but its racism nonetheless

    1. If what you are saying is "if somebody paints their face black, regardless of their intentions and context, it is always insulting to black people", then the only conclusion to this possible is that "looking like a black person is always insulting". If you truly believe that looking like a black person is an insult, then that probably makes you more of a racist than the people who are embracing it.

    2. It's always the true racists that try to insert racism into everything and then blame everyone else for being racist.
