Kpop Star's Michelle Lee Isn't Yellow Enough

I don't really follow Kpop Star. I never liked American Idol, The Voice, etc., so why would I bother watching the Korean equivalents? Anyway, Michelle Lee lost despite getting better scores from the judges than the guy who beat her. The guy who ended up advancing only advanced because of the fan vote. It's obvious that even if a half-black/half-Korean girl shits all over the pure Korean in terms of talent, the other Koreans will "stick up" for the pure Korean and vote for him despite him not deserving to move on to the next round. Props to JYP for sticking up for the girl. This kind of situation is exactly why little teenage girls shouldn't be voting for the winners and just let the judges decide.

  1. I don't quite agree with this.
First of all, this is about creating a Kpop star, therefore the people's votes ARE important and should be taken into account.
And Michelle may be a better singer, but that guy totally owns the stage. He delivers an entertaining performance, and the main point of an entertainer is to entertain.

So assuming it's because she's half black she lost is really an short thought explanation.

    1. Well, if you take the fans' opinion into consideration, you're always going to end up with shitty idols and pushing away those that can actually do what idols are intended to do: sing and/or dance.

    2. Which is why there are judges, so that both conditions can be filled, talented & appealing

    3. In a different article it says that there were always comments about her race etc. etc. Nobody is assuming anything, why would ~JYP~ even bring it up if it wasn't about that? You can be trained into charisma, this guy has been criticized weekly for his lack of talent but, he was kept there by viewer votes. He's honestly just wasting space because we already know he won't fucking get anywhere anyways.

  2. Its not the fact that she is half black. It's the fact that she LOOKS half black. Yoon Mirae is half black but most people can't tell(whether it's due to skin bleaching or just because she came out that way. It doesn't matter). We all know how homogenous Korea is. People who try to deny that fact are delusional.

Who knows, she could be picked up by YG. That'd be something interesting.

    1. ...? Yoon Mirae does looks mixed. Just because she doesn't look like Amerie, Crystal Kay or Michelle (as in that dark or a lot more prominent black features) doesn't mean she look 100% Korean.. and if some Koreans can bash her 1/4 black 3/4 Korean son who looks a lot less black than she does (and bash on his 'nappy hair' which to many black people, that wouldn't even be considered nappy...) she & him still looks 'off.' (couldn't find a better term to use...)

  3. talent means diddly squat in kpop.

Korea is all about looks, always has and always will be.

The girl has a better chance at succeeding in America putting out her own indie albums compared to doing it in Korea.

  4. Michelle Lee was the better contestant, but so what?
What's the point of her getting signed by a label if she isn't popular.
Yes there is racism there and yes it is ugly but you can't force the public to like her.
Being a good singer does not translate to sales if the public doesn't like you.
She has a better chance of making it outside Korea and hopefully some people who can make it happen for her watched her performances.

  6. yellow? see the girl behind Michelle, yea that's what I call pure white milky skin.
only ignorant people like you would say an Asian look yellow, you want to see yellow people?
Jennifer Aniston and Brad Pitt are what I called yellow people.

Caucasian people can't pull off fair skin because they look fucking pink, that's why they say Asians are yellow, pink people would never have a soft milky white skin like Suzy, IU or Hyuna.

do you think this girl look yellow?

of course she doesn't but pink people think fair skin= pink

    1. Then I guess pretty much everyone in the world is ignorant for calling black people, in which 90% of them having different shades of BROWN, well... black (I'm certain many people haven't met a REAL BLACK person before.) I refer to myself as black because it's just the terminology used for centuries in every language but there's nothing really 'black' about me except for my eye pupil. Just saying, if you're gonna get politically correct & junk on a blog that pretty much jokes a lot (and really shouldn't be taken that seriously...) I just hope you don't go and call black people black (people mainly do so because 'brown' people is suppose to mean everyone else who ain't from Africa even if that Nigerian dude is lighter than the darkest Indian) The creator of the blog is Asian (Korean, right I believe?) so I doubt the last thing they would be is ignorant of well... his own ethnicity like that

  7. I'm asian but i'm a brown race. Yellow people is a term referring to people of East Asia and North Asian origin.

  8. If this girl is talented (which she seems to be based on everybody's reaction), then she's going to become a star in Korea. John Park lost Superstar K2 but is doing well for himself.

In America, Jennifer Hudson won a goddamn Oscar despite losing relatively early on in American Idol. Idol "losers" have had way more success than the "winners".

If JYP likes her so much, he should just sign her. It's not as if she's some kind of Untouchable now just because she didn't win Kpop Star.

  9. I don't think that having the opportunity to sign with SM, YG or JYP would have been a good thing for her anyway. They want a kpop star, which pretty much means someone similar to the most popular singers/groups under those labels. I don't think they'll be able to handle someone who's different, look different and doesn't sound/look aegyo/cute, she can't fit in that formula. And the fangirls/boys won't like her.
She's talented but she still needs to work more on "stage presence" as well as "vocal mastering" in my opinion because she really has potential and can sing in different ways/genres of music if she wanted to. If she wants to make it in Korea, she shouldn't rely on a TV reality show but find her own formula and be unique. If you are Gummy or a female singer with a great voice you struggle to be noticed and famous nowadays in Korea. I understand, ol' ballads are getting really boring and old. That's why Michelle should "find herself" and be different and modern in order to appeal to the young and the less young people. Like they say, "don't hate the player/game, master the game" ;D
She still has some work to do before being like diva Insooni who owns the stage whenever she sings/dances. And I think that being rejected in that TV show should be a real motivation for her, a kick in the ass. Really, it's not that sad, she can do so much better than this :)

  10. i agree a 100% with what you said. plus i think fan girls shouldn't be voting for things like this. it's sad how she lost. for all those people that voted for that guy for looks...shame shame shame. Michelle was excellent, beautiful, and talented. she should've won.
