Cho Yong Pil - Hello

Okay, I'm assuming 99% of the Kpop fans who read this blog have never heard of Cho Yong Pil, and I'm assuming 99.99% of general Kpop fans have never heard of him. Well, he's a legend for a reason. Surprisingly, Verbal Jint brought his A game in his verse. VJ has been phoning it in for the past few years, sucking major shit in his recent releases.

On unrelated news, I'll review some idol MVs this weekend. There's only going to be a few hundred people who even read this article, so I'm hoping that at least some of the readers enjoy a non-idol song.

  1. Speaking of Cho Yong Pil, reminds me of Phantom's song 조용필처럼. I'm sure it's about Cho.

  2. Ok, IDK why the MV feels so Hollywood-esque (not from the obvious American setting). I guess the camera and CG?

  4. Apologies for sounding arrogant, but this guy's a legend?

This song especially sounds like: "what if Bryan Adams was a member of a sampling group".

    1. This release is meant to cater to both young and older audiences (i.e. bridge the gap) and usually over-ambitious projects like that fail at both esp when these veterans have been distant from the newer developments in the music industry. His old songs are way better; this one just alienates mature audiences and doesn't quite keep up with current trends to attract younger ones

    2. "His old songs are way better"

If you assume I didn't go check back and out some of his other stuff, which were disappointing all the same, then you don't know me.
See where this was "X with of a bit of Y and Z", his older stuff is just "X". Run-by-the-rickety-mill stadium rock.

    3. Yea, I didn't mean that he was all that avant garde back then, as far as composition is concerned, but his lyrics were more mature and inspired. The songs this time round are a bit too close to teen pop for my liking

  5. Guilty as charged. But I gave "Bounce" a listen, and I thought is was fantastically catching.

  7. Cho Yongpil is like my guilty pleasure. Kind of the same reason why I'm STILL listening to Maroon 5.
