Am I Dreaming That A Pink Finally Made A Comeback? No No No

Among Bruce Lee's many quotes, there is one quote that really hits the spot when defining A Pink's latest comeback. "It's not the daily increase but daily decrease. Hack away at the unessential."

The first unessential element that A Pink hacked away at is Yoo Kyung.

I think it's fair to say that Yoo Kyung was A Pink's Hyoyeon or Bom. However, unlike those two, Yoo Kyung has absolutely nothing to offer to the group, unless random English lines without a thick accent count as something.

The next unessential element that A Pink hacked away at is Fat Chorong's fat. While she is not fat in normal terms, she has the appearance of being a bit chubby, hence why people call her Fat Chorong. Even though Eunji is my favorite member, I have always found Chorong the best looking. Now with Naeun's new Latino look, Chorong has cemented her position for me.

Onto the song, A Cube made the right choice to keep A Pink's original style. A Pink's sound is reminiscent of late 90s to mid 2000s Kpop when Kpop was at its peak. I always fear that A Pink will abandon that sound to release some diarrhea like I Got A Boy. God, I fucking hate that song. Nonono is a modern take on a formula that works, and I'll take a refinement of what works over fucking "innovative but complete shit" that seems to be the trend.

However, I do have one problem with the song. Why does Naeun sing the first part of the bridge? The bridge should be left to Namjoo and Eunji, not some scrub like Naeun.

I was prepared to like this song just because Yoo Kyung was no longer in the group, but I actually enjoyed it more than I thought I would.

  2. It's sound like they brutally ripped a poor keyboard of one of its pre-sampled beats, and shipped almost as is.

Well, fuck me. If it's too much work, getting up from their chair to reach the top left EQ knobs of the mixing board, then I guess it's too much work for me to listen past the 40 second mark. Bite my white hairy ass, Cube.

  5. If there's one thing I can except from A Pink, it's consistency. Innovation is a foreign concept to them. They never play the "butch = female empowerment" card. They have great pop sensibility and refreshingly normal outfits. It also helps that they have the 1-2 visual punch of Na Eun & Chorong (not to mention Bomi has been sooooooooo slutty).

I really enjoyed NONONO. I remember Cube claiming A Pink would be the second coming of Fin.k.l, and by sticking to their formula, they've managed to do a swell fucking job -- even if A Pink will never ever (ever) reach the same level of popularity. I can't pinpoint exactly how the girls do it, but they are always achingly desirable (sex, I'm talking about sex), despite their innocent, spring outfits. And that's just the way things should be (lookin' at you Sistar).

    1. I'm constantly lusting after Eunji's butthole. Even now, as I type this very sentence.

    2. while I'm happy to see A Pink stay on the increasingly abandoned 'cute' side of things, since even Girls Day have decided that they're SISTAR, I'd like to see *something* different. you say consistency, I say stagnation. they did that girly flowery stuff at the beginning, then they had Hush which was a nice progression. but this is just going back to the start. and if you keep doing the same old thing over & over again you end up with Wonder girls.

There are a hundred different directions to go if youwant to progress (without turning sexy), backwards shouldnt be one of them

    3. I love throwbacks to old-school Kpop, so I'd be perfectly content with cute, catchy songs coupled with spring-themed outfits... forever, but I understand if you don't feel similarly. Would you mind listing some examples of where you think they should have gone with this comeback? Hush was my favorite A Pink song & MV, but had it been any more sexual, I would have hated it (ok, exaggeration).

    4. anything girly but just not the same as we've seen before. I mentioned Wonder Girls because they had the upper hand on SNSD but just kept sticking to the retro thing; SNSD kept doing something different enough each comeback to feel like progressing each time. still with an overall feminine theme, never outright sexy, but always something different.

it felt like Cube were using A Pink to ape SNSD's progression - the early stuff was like Into The New World, then Hush was like Gee. so this time around I was expecting something a little darker like Genie, to show them maturing somewhat. that's why I feel like this is a bit of regression.

look at Super Junior. they had lots of variation until they hit Sorry Sorry, and have ended up released it again every year since. now that's fine for a boy band, because their profitability comes from rabid fangirls; they're guaranteed a certain amount of support, but not more. but girl groups can have a very broad appeal, with males & females or various ages, so they're either unknown or popular; there's very little middle ground.

so when I see A Pink doing the same thing again it feels like Cube have given up it and are sticking with a safe formula instead. it's a shame because I like them, and hoped that following them would mean follwing them on a journey.

    5. I guess we just have different expectations of Kpop. I like it for the pretty Korean girls & catchy music. I don't want anything deeper than what I see on the surface, nor do I expect artistic growth (seeing as most idols aren't artists). Most attempts at changing things up have ended pretty terribly - look no farther than Kpop's 2 biggest groups: Big Bang & SNSD. In 10 years when I look back at their discographies, A Pink's page will be chock full of catchy, nostalgic singles while SNSD's will have Gee (yay!), Genie (yay!), and a clusterfuck of messy hits (booo!). Sure, certain groups (KARA, SISTAR) have drastically changed their styles, to great success, but that's due to their earlier music being really fucking bad. In the case of A Pink, I say don't fix what ain't broke.

    7. yeah I do read too much into things sometimes. But they showed they could do something a bit more mature with Oh My Baby and it would be nice to have some of that sort of thing in the future
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3_ZJPQ-6FCE (linking it because Bomi, omfg)

and SNSD will have a lot more than those two songs. up to and including Hoot almost everything was great from a KPop perspective, and I've made this point before but SM have just been experimenting with them since, because Hoot cemented their place at the top and everything since has been experimental. the Nipponese releases have been sticking to safer ground, as was TTS

    8. I feel like I'm listening to Co-Ed... NONONO is much better imo. SNSD could do anything at this point and still be successful, but as Girl's Day would remind you, nothing lasts forever (or so we hope).

  6. They just like brutally ripped some poor keyboard of its pre-sampled beats, and sold it off as a song.

  10. All I have to say is at Eunji is hot/Best/Cool but her last line at Chorus Fucked this Entire Song Up.

Extra Word: Naeun new face is hot, Bomi look Hot for 15 year old Bare Talent, and that chick with Nose that makes her alomst look like Jewish Man needs to GO.

Yookyung had Best English and was Rich, APINK lost their Only Chance to buy their way into Kcon 2014 ((=
In all my Honest Thoughts, the Only way I can tell Yookyung left the group is how cheap their set looks

Thanks for making me realize this, and it's really true, I like this style, but the song isn't that very good to me. My My is still my favorite.

  13. The song is great as is the whole EP; in particular, 'I Need You'. A Pink completely owns the cute concept right now. All in all Hello Venus is more attractive(Although now that Yookyung left it’s a much closer contest) but A Pink has better concepts and music.
With almost all groups going sexy it would behoove A Pink to stay cute. Half of their members are still underage so I'm thinking A Cube is just waiting for them to be legal so they can go sexy ala Girl’s Day. I won’t complain but I think they have a better chance at being popular with this kind of concept.

On a fanboying note I love Bomi and would gladly marry her. She is so cute but also sexy. Did you see that move @3:30! Damn…

  17. I didn't pay much attention to A-Pink until I happened to catch 'A-Pink News' one day and immediately got addicted to the show. Now I love them. By-far the funniest and most likeable girl group.

This song was a little disappointing to me, but I find it hard not to like anything they do.

I do think "Fat Chorong" was hotter, though.
