Crayon Pop - FM

Crayon Pop teamed up with Shinsadong Tiger, so the group should have its first good song, right?

While I've been busy catching up on songs I have missed in the past month, I found out my main nigga Shinsadong Tiger, who has composed plenty of hits for my two favorite groups, composed a song for a group I cannot stand.

...The result actually turned out better than I expected. It's a B-rated T-ara song without a catchy chorus, but it's actually listenable unlike the other shit they have released until now. Unfortunately, the song has a roughly 20 second rap break which almost killed the song for me right there. However, the rest of the song is fairly good, with the verses holding up well, but this song could have used a stronger chorus.

Getting to the MV, I found this highly unrealistic for Crayon Pop to be a gang of heroes. The first problem is having those two twins who suffer from Down Syndrome. I'm not a huge reader of Marvel or DC Comics, but show me a superhero that has Down Syndrome. Maybe Crayon Pop is being innovative here. Next we have Soyul, while cute, stands in at an impressive 4'6", so no villain would take this shawty seriously. Then you have Ellin, who would be too busy watching her nails and shit instead of fighting. Gummi has to shoulder everything alone. That probably explains why she needed two Master Chiefs to help her defeat these lame ass monsters that wear their underwear on the outside.

  1. You should read up on Kpopalypse's posts, since you don't know Way is a gangster.

    2. I didn't know gangs sank to such low levels in Korea where they would allow someone with Down's Syndrome to lead a gang.

    3. All part of the master plan! It was almost blown up by Soyul's recklessness https://youtu.be/rylSXzDVa1A?t=3m27s
Luckily, Way can pull off the Down Syndrome appearance to ward off any suspicion.

    4. They're all murders in disguise. Except for Choa, I think she's genuinly timid and... slow.

      I love Soyul's butt package.

  2. As a side note, I started off with "all asians look the same" when I got into kpop. 4 years later, can tell the twins apart at a glance ^.^

    1. Alas, 5 years later for me and I still cannot. After Jessica Jung was booted from SNSD, I thought she ended up in GFriend [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XwPBgu3RImY].

Imagine my embarrassment at the meetings when I told everyone she was singing "(Anal) Glass Bead"! [Thanks, HanYeSeul Fag. Every time I think of that title, I laugh.]

  3. I detest how cheesy the MV is, like the transformation sequence is just incredibly horrid. Call me over exaggerating, but those repeated cheesiness just makes the MV very hard to watch. I am very grateful of the sailor moon references (and HALO too apparently?) that they threw in there, but why do they have to execute it so poorly.

    1. They're on a budget.
I take cheesy, cheap shit (which this MV isn't) that you can somehow laugh at over the 108th generic dance video.

Look at the Catch me if you can video. How utterly uninspired and they could have done something much more entertaining, SM Ent certainly has the money for it.

  4. Wow, never thought I would find someone else (in the Kpop websites that I followed religiously) who disliked Crayon Pop as much as I do. Thank you HanYeSeul Fag. I liked Bar Bar Bar, but then they went ahead and released the turds that are Uh-ee and OK. FM is better than those 2 turds but still can't carry the hype that they are known for.

(I know I will get a lot of flak for this but eh)
For me CP will always be the cheaper version of Orange Caramel. OC have the same "quirky songs" and "quirky image" but OC actually executed them 1000x better. Plus, Raina, Nana and Lizzy are hot (OK that one I admit is completely bias of me).

  5. The second song on that album rocks hard though and I think I like it better than FM. Yeah, didn't care for UHEE. And if you talk bad about Soyul she will hunt you down and smoke you with her HK SBR!

  6. August 12, 2013, @ 4:45 a.m. "The Crayon Pop Fanboy Cull" fiction by Kpopalypse turned me on to Crayon Pop. (BTW, it’s still a great read.) Prior to that article, I’d never heard of Crayon Pop. I liked the song and the dance for Bar Bar Bar, but what made me a fan was A) their previous songs were f-ing great!, B) their guerrilla performances showing them trying so hard, and C) those talk show style vids they posted where they were goofy, quirky, and fun. It gave me that feeling like SNSD did when I first discovered Kpop through them with the release of Gee (yes, I’m one of those people).

Since Bar Bar Bar, I've enjoyed "Hero," the jigglebouncefest that was "Ok," and now I really love the quirky, colorful, quintessential CP that is "FM."

Thank you, Kpopalypse!!! I’ll be a fan of Crayon Pop until they day they backstab one of their members and kick her out.
