I'm sure you've read the interview Soyeon had recently about withdrawing from SNSD. Let me just say one thing: thank God she did. SNSD is one of those "crack groups" in Kpop. When you first get into Kpop, SNSD is probably one of the few Kpop groups you listen to and think they're the shit. Once the high dies down and you look at SNSD realistically, you see they're an average girl group. Average in looks and talent.
So why is it a good thing Soyeon didn't debut with SNSD? Taeyeon. I don't give a shit who you think is better out of the two, but Soyeon was meant to be the leader and main vocalist. With Taeyeon and Soyeon (and Co-Ed's Chanmi), SNSD could have had some nice fucking vocalists. But looking at the vocal talent in SNSD....it's Taeyeon and the others. Jessica is supposed to be #2, but she's quiet when she sings live. Watch any Genie performance live. Can't hear her. Tiffany has a good vocie, but can't control it. Sunny....no. Seohyun...lifeless singing. Then they have 4 supporting vocalists who can't really sing.
Soyeon and Taeyeon would be competing with each other for lines. SNSD fans like hearing Taeyeon's voice a lot and T-ara fans like hearing Soyeon's voice a lot. In the same group, their singing time would have been cut in half.
Soyeon would probably be more popular in SNSD. There's no doubting that. There are positives of her being in T-ara. She's in an idol group that actually has more than one vocalist. She gets to sing more than she would have if she were in SNSD. She gets to be on variety shows. Yeah, there are quite a few SNSD members that rarely go on variety shows. CCM is also under CJ Entertainment, so Soyeon has an easier time landing acting roles than if she were in SM.
In the end, I'm glad Soyeon is in T-ara. SNSD hasn't had a song 1/10th as sexy as I Go Crazy Because of You anyway.

You make a good point.
ReplyDeleteCCM also trains better idol-actors/actors than SM. I mean look at their line-up of actors..
Lee Yeon Hee. GO Ara...No comment.
Now look at CCM: No Minwoo, T-ara Eunjung...
No Minwoo is an interesting example. He WAS a FORMER SM artist; the drummer for the band TRAX. He was also an actor, but with SM he received like what? One acting gig a year? But now under CCM, he has acted in about 3 dramas since his first drama with CCM - My girlfriend is a gumiho.
Eunjung proved her acting chops by playing the villain in Dream High. Despite getting the hate for her character and losing some stupid delusional fans along the way, Eunjung has everything to gain as an actress now.
What does SM do with their actors? (Not singer-actors, just Actors)
They let their actors out once in a while to look pretty in magazine photo shoots and put them in dramas/movies here and there where mostly their acting talents, if they have any, don't shine. =P
Sorry. That wall all off-topic.
Guess I just wanted to rant.
From. Anon ;)
That was* off-topic.
ReplyDeleteGuess I should've proof-read. =P
I agree with all of your points. I like Lee Yeon Hee, but just to look at her. She isn't very good at acting and is hardly in anything. Siwon from Suju is the only decent idol-actor from SM.
ReplyDelete"She's in an idol group that actually has more than one vocalist."
ReplyDeleteWho? From what I've heard live, they all suck balls, excluding Soyeon (who doesn't even sound that great while dancing) and Eunjung (but I've never considered the physical act of rapping to be any great talent). And apart from Taeyeon, and occasionally Tiffany (Sica, back then, not anymore), no one in SNSD can hold a note while dancing. Which is essentially what counts when you're an idol.
The only real girl-group that is consistently vocally talented, is BEG, and they're a ballad-turned-idol group.
Just my 2 cents.
so who are u supporting? t-ara or snsd,i seriously dun get wad u mean..
DeleteBEG doesn't count.
ReplyDelete@david You must not have analyzed T-ara's vocal talents properly. I suggest you go listen to their song "Good Person", both old and new versions. (Old = with the original members; New = with Boram, Qri, Soyeon)
ReplyDeleteEunjung isn't just a rapper, she's also the LEAD VOCALIST. She does double duty of rapping and singing with Hyomin, who also has some kick ass vocals.
Soyeon is the MAIN VOCALIST. Her forte isn't high notes, its the difficult ones. Together, these three complement each other.
Youtube that one live performance of "Good Person" and you'll see what I mean. Sure Boram, Jiyeon suck and Qri wasn't there for obvious reasons, but the trio of Hyomin/Eunjung/Soyeon are definitely pros at belting out notes.
FYI, T-ara are also a ballad-turned-idol group. They had two pretty good vocalists before - Jiwon and Jiae. The old T-ara had 4 vocalists + a Jiyeon.
Now, the new 7 member T-ara has at best - 3 power vocals (2 of which are also rappers), 2 average idol singers, 1 backup singer (Qri, LOL) and a Hwayoung who's taken over as the main rapper.
I don't blame you for not knowing the extent of T-ara's vocals properly, since their title songs don't do their voices any justice. & since "Good Person" they have yet to release a ballad.
Okay. End of Rant.
from anon =P
I know they're a ballad-turned-idol group, but if you watch any of their recent live performances, it doesn't show, at all.
ReplyDelete@CZ: My point. Idol groups can't be counted on to consistently bring quality vocals.
you suck snsd is awesome and t-ara is good...everyone knows it so jz shut up and nt post things without your brains..oh sorry you don't have one...sm trains awesome people
ReplyDelete..
another naive sones -_- ,we can post things with our brains, wad a weird logic XD
DeleteOne more fapping Sone fanboy to add to the FAIL list...

Deletefuk you all SNSd is the Best... haters go to hell!!! your just insecured bitch!!!
ReplyDeletesnsd is the best, but t-ara is the best of all.problem?
Deletecoughs.
Deleteyou
SNSD is the best and there is nothing you all haters can do about it! they are flooding the world with their success... t-ara is also doing the same, in short they are all doing their best, being in snsd or t-ara so yeon is doing her best! fuk that person who made this stupid immature post!
ReplyDeletemost haters are come from sone
DeleteWhat strikes me as funny is that you're an anti-fan with an entire blog dedicated to kpop. Isn't it just a bit sad how antis can put so much effort into lengthy posts on hate forums, while the actual artists can just ignore the hate because lets face it, fan mail is more fun.
ReplyDeleteHmm I agree with you for the most part, but SNSD definitely has more than one good vocalist... Check out their Beautiful Restriction cover, acoustic Gee, etc etc, and you can see that the others are actually pretty good!
ReplyDeletenow 80% haters are sone
ReplyDeleteI DO AGREE TO YOUR POINT.
ReplyDeleteYou know, I don't hate SNSD but,
T-ARA's really better than them.
All of them have talents. Singing, Acting, Dancing and a lot more.
They're also mature than SNSD.
They should be called as the Kpop queens.
Choreographies are really awesome.
