The Oricon has released their annual report for group earnings for 2011, and once again, KARA continues to roflstomp SNSD. Using the gross sales album numbers for 2011 (Dec 27th 2010 through December 19th 2011 for those of you number crunchers curious), KARA's earnings tallied about $63 million (4th overall), while Girls’ Generation came in behind them with about $52 million (5th overall).
But before you cream your panties and shout "OMO HALLYU HWAITING~" please keep in mind that AKB48 still shat on both of them combined (literally) with their chart-topping $211 million. This shouldn't come as much of a surprise because guess what? People like people who can actually speak their language worth a damn.

If you look up their stage songs, some are pretty hardcore talking about sex (Kurumi to dialogue, that chocolate song), suicide/depression (keibetsu), society issue (Mokugekisha, Seifuku ga jama), encouragement (Alive) and songs like Zannen Shoujo talk about how pretty girls get away with carrying knives. They also made alot of "different" sounding song from normal release like River, Beginner, Kaze wa Fuiteiru, and the rock ish sounding songs like Blue Rose etc etc.

They released more because all the members knows japanese and can actually understand what they're singing. Japanese Pop differ to korean pop as they like to see their idols develop over time "unperfected idols" thats what kara gives them. They started with minimal japanese with translators and overtime practically didnt need anymore help, thats development which the japanese likes. SNSD however has no development. They released an album, made money and now they think they're successful. They have popularity so they think they dont even need to try anymore basically. Kara are always on variety shows in japan and thats basically what idols are made to do, ENTERTAINMENT. Having idol groups focus only on music like SNSD in japan will fail. If the japanese wanted to hear good japanese music they would listen to their own famous and better artists. All idols need to do is make catchy nonsense music and go on variety shows, that's why KARA will always be better in Japan than SNSD.
