[MV Review] 2Yoon "24/7"

Ever since I found out 2Yoon's debut song, "24/7," was going to be country pop-themed, I've been quite excited for its release. And a little frightened of the outcome.

Once the banjo-laden teaser came out, I basically started foaming at the mouth. I loved it.

That being said, in full, "24/7" disappointed me slightly. The teaser was so addictive and country, and the full song diverged from that more than I'd hoped.

Dammit, why couldn't it all just be banjo?

To answer the question some people asked about which poppy American country singer it sounded like, I'd say none of the mainstream females. It sounded more like bluegrass meets kpop.

Despite my mild disappointment, the song and the video are light and fun and work well together, even if the video takes place on a pretty claustrophobic set.

"24/7" is addictive but misguided at times. The video in particular sometimes strays from the country theme.

What do country people wear? Not this shit. That's what.

Then, the producers had to pull this fast one on us: Jiyoon, who I expected to rap, just sings, and Gayoon, who I thought would just sing, pulls out some weird hybrid rap/country thing.

Gotcha, suckers!

Confusing singsong rap aside, this was a good song for Gayoon. She actually even stopped making her bitch face long enough to smile throughout the video. Take Gayoon outta the city, put a few drinks in her, and apparently she's pretty fun.

BOTTOM LINE: Gayoon should let loose more often, and 2Yoon should keep at this country pop thing.

  1. I have to agree that there is a slight disappointment that I feel when I saw the MV. It just drops all the hints of country-like sound in the chorus.

Also that Gayoon rapraprapsing thing kinda bugs me a bit.

However, I do think they are really brave for trying something new, and I like new stuffs that is not just recycled. Props for that.

  2. Verdict: The trailer pwned the actual vid.
It was an epic fail for me but still a lot more tolerable than SNSD's new song.

  4. I really enjoy this song! It's addictive and fun, plus, it shows there are still good things in kpop. Although I wish there was more of the twangy banjo

  5. This was the KPop version of Hoedown Throwdown, tbh.

Banjo pop is not working for 2Yoon, they should have picked any other song off the Harvest Moon mini as the lead single!! FUCK YOU CUBE

    1. Not sure if all Korean labels are trolling everyone or what. It's consistent

  6. I'd still take this over whatever shit Hyuna has been coming up with for years.

  7. Jiyoon was perfect.

Gayoon has the verses in a weird voice (I can tolerate that), the failed singing break in the middle that kills the rhythm of the song (I might have tolerated that), and Sooyoung-level legs (I can't accept that). Somebody please feed that girl and give her better lines...

  8. 2Yoon rocks my world but their isn't much to country. After a while all the songs start to sound the same and the whining accent is just atrocious. Unless its blue grass that is fucking awesome.

  9. Perhaps it's just my general distaste for country/blue grass in general, but I was not a fan of this.
And Gayoon, wtf. Last time I checked you had like, thighs or something. Now she's just walking on chopsticks.... wtf happened? Is she on the same diet as HyunA?
    Girl looks 12.

    Mixed with this:

Guess I was asking for too much.

  11. It's a good song imo catchy... And I think Jiyoon's clothes were inspired by the carpenters in Harvest Moon...

    1. I can't help but feel like CUBE intentionally screwed 2Yoon's debut over.

It's like they thought "Huh..... After going all out on HyunA's one why don't we just give 2Yoon's the scraps since we promised people something.....". It kinda looks like that's what they got. They pretty much gave them a song with multiple rip-offs with Miley's hoey-something song with the same banjo twangs and BAP's "down" thing fangirls seem to be crying about.

While Hyuna's set looks colorful and fun, 2Yoon's kinda looks like a place to secretly do crack in. It looks dull and boring especially with the brown color scheme. Why the heck didn't they do it on an actual farm or outside? At least it'll look a heck of a lot better. Why Gayoon is the clothing stylist is beyond me because she did a horrible job.

That being said, all the other songs on the album are soo much better than 24/7. I reckon the others could've done better on charts if it was promoted *cough*CUBE-screwing-2Yoo-over*cough*. I really like the tempo of "Black Swan" even if it is another rip-off/remake song (or maybe they bought the rights) *sigh* CUBE again.....

Although I'm thoroughly disappointing the song is indeed stuck in my head and I did like the rest of the album. Hate Gayoon's rap-thingy though.
Jiyoon looks qt despite Gayoon's horrible styling (her suspenders out-fit looks good though). The various humorous bits in the mv was a plus.

I can't even be mad at 2Yoon for this one since CUBE only seems to put in effort for their cash cow. I'm really confused....is CUBE actually trying not to make money off them or......

  13. The song has a couple of very catchy hooks that keep me snagged, but when I go to listen to the song to satisfy the need to hear them again I'm reminded that this is also kind of a messy fucking song with a lot to not like about it too.

DEAR WOMEN SINGERS PLEASE STOP THROWING RANDOM WAILS INTO YOUR SONGS. YES YOU CAN DO THAT. I SEE THAT. I APPRECIATE THAT YOU CAN DO THAT. I RECOGNIZE YOUR ABILITY. STOP

  14. Ssangyoon are looking cute here. I'm actually partial towards country music, so I hope more groups try out this concept (without completely shitting on it). In the end it's not a bad song, but I think it needed more banjo.
