DeletePersonal I don't watch kpop dramas. I just like the music. I stop there. Japan, I just like their rock and metal scene. I don't get to much into anime.
I'm like the worse Asian pop fan. I actually listen to the music. Don't crush super hard over the assholes who perform it. Could care less if my bias is shack up with somebody.
I just like certain aspects of Asian culture. Some of the people,Asian and not I talk to online are cool. Who listen to kpop. But I keep this shit on the low. I still prefer American and European heavy metal over this.
I guess the good positive about liking kpop and jrock/visual kei is the fact a read more about Asian American history as well native. I mean before I always felt as a minority in America. Asians were better off verse Black and Latinos. After getting into cultural issues its not,in fact they are worse off.
Even for my business project I wanted to expand my knowledge on American economist. I looked up Asian American economist and found one Japanese guy. That was it unless its focus on the market boom in India,China,Japan and South Korea.
Its like AAs just exist here and that is it. A lot of stuff I found on my own that I didn't learn if I didn't explore the culture more.

@mybias I tend to assume most entertainers are assholes tbh, whether they're idols or 'serious' musicians. I also think quite a few of them are regular drug users, sleep around and smoke and drink too much. My father used to work in TV production and the things I saw and heard tainted my view of the entertainment world.

I noticed in both jpop and kpop fandoms you have the fans (of any race) who are also into the country as a whole, history, culture, food, language etc... and most of them are usually decent and have other interests and hobbies.
Then you get the ones who just want to fly to Japan or Korea to stalk their idol. They spend all their spare time and cash on the fandom. Their knowledge of the country is limited to the TV shows and dramas their idol was in. If they ever manage the trip, it will be spent trying to see their idol in concert, TV show taping or just plain stalking. I heard some sasaengs even prey on those international fans and extort large sums of money from them in exchange for being allowed to join in the stalking. They have no concept of private time and space, or that their idol is not the persona they see on TV but just someone doing a job. I have no pity for these fans unless they are very young, like pre-teens.
Some sasaeng fans get two or three jobs to support their fanatic behavior. Other will whore themselves out as well. There is a business in this some taxi drivers rent an all day fare for sasaeng fans. As will those who claim to have insider info anf former manager s sellling info about idols.
