How To Rap Like A Kpop Idol #1

Have you ever wanted to become a Kpop rapper, but didn't know how to start? Well, this is the first part in a series of how to start your dream of becoming an idol rapper!

There are many aspects to cover, such as flow/delivery, technique, lyric, persona, etc., but the most important aspect to get noticed by your CEO is your voice. If you have noticed over the years that fangirls automatically equate having a deep voice to that rapper being jjang to the bak, such as TOP and Bang Yong Guk. Forget the fact that neither of them have any flow when they rap or have poor lyrical writing skills, it doesn't matter when you rap with a deep voice.

For example, I covered Mithra Jin's verse from Epik High's Breakdown to show how to make it palatable for a Kpop fangirl.

As you can hear, I sacrificed a little speed just to focus on having a deep voice. Sure, to listeners of hip hop, it sounds bad, and that's exactly the point. Your typical fangirl doesn't listen to hiphop, so it doesn't matter if your flow is off or if the strain in your voice made you pause a couple of times and mispronounce some words. All of your mistakes will be overlooked because fangirls will be jizzing about how deep your rapping voice is. You will never have to improve as long as you have a deep voice because fangirls will be comparing you to 2Pac and The Notorious B.I.G.

    1. Aren't you that guy who runs that rap thread on Onehallyu?

Wonder how AKF feels about his beloved Hani being categorized as "mid tier"

    2. Lol.

He shows a lot of disdain for idol rappers especially GD & TOP as he never fails to mention them in posts about idol rapping. He should read that thread. Would love to see his reaction to seeing a non-fangirl praise idol rappers.
"This person thinks GD&TOP are good rappers? Just another delulu fangirl."
      What kind of narrow-mindedness really

Inb4 this comment is screencapped, don't call me a fangirl because I'm not.

Some fangirls I've came across say that Chanyeol's the best rapper in EXO because of his deep voice

    1. Chanyeol is probably the best rapper in SM, independent of his voice. His flow sucks but he doesn't have much competition.

  5. Don't forget rap speed, Apparently if you rap 15 words per second you're the best rapper EVER!

    1. That is actually a future part in this series, but I will need a lot of practice to speed rap in Korean haha.

    2. Just use edit to speed your voice, I do that when I (pretend) to speed rap.

  6. That had a very demonic-possession vibe.

Also, I hope there will be a female rap installment, focusing on chipmunk rapping a la Hyuna or Jimin.

    1. I'll have to see if I can make my voice nasal enough to attempt chipmunk rapping haha. Also, thanks for the suggestion of another part of the series. I didn't even think of anything like that to include.

  7. It sounded like you lost your voice. Maybe the deep voice rap isn't that fun at all. Haha, anyway, I doubt anyone will notice if you're rapping: 'Fuck you fangirls for being retards' at high speeds and a deep voice.

  8. Vocalfags haven't done with shitting up normal k-pop, they're now moving into rap and insisting that everyone have 'the right vocal tone' even though vocal tone is something like 0.01% of what makes a good rapper good.

    1. Also, great post! I'd like to know how to sound like CL. Could I achieve this in my lifetime?

    2. Grate your nails on a chalkboard, and you will have "nailed" CL's rapping style!

    3. Why are you blaming us vocal fags for this idiocy? We have nothing to do with such a subjective notion; we actually know that tone has nothing to do with what makes a good rapper or a good singer. Stop blaming the wrong crowd, kpopalypse oppa.

  12. I like Old School Kpop rapping. There's a cheesiness and theatrical quality to it that I find entertaining. Here is a Kpop group from back in the day called Goofy doing "The Rule of the Game" that exemplifies that typical fast Kpop style of rap from back then. The video also stars a very young Lee Jung Hyun who's looking pretty fine.

  13. Another favorite rapper from long ago. ChoPD doing "Fever" from '99. Again, with Lee Jung Hyun during the peak of her hotness.

  14. Cannibal Corpse came to my mind. Anyways, great to hear Mr.AKF's voice.. :D

  15. This is not the first time I heard ppl say Top has no flow, I haven't noticed and don't know much about rap anyways so I can't tell...
Just wondering if that is the general opinion amongst non-fangirls?

    ReplyDelete
  16. I thought it was some sort of metalcore cover of a hip-hop song lol

  17. I'm anticipating oppa's daebak debut already. *changes desktop wallpaper to screencap from AKF livestream*

  18. But Bang Yong Guk does write lyrics to a lot of his songs though. I don't really listen to hip hop A LOT but I do like some hip hop artists and do listen to hip hop. Mostly korean hip hop though, so maybe that makes a difference? And with korean hip hop I do not mean korean pop hip hop like BTS but actual korean hip hop

  19. All you need now is a squeaky-voiced sidekick, and you'll be dominating the Kpop scene in no time. Maybe I suggest the stage name B.O.T.T.O.M?

  21. I like BYG. He was on that gd diss song back in 2009 when he was an underground rapper. Now he's an idol. I find it all very funny. Plus I like BYG's whole commander feel thing he has going on. Everything he says sounds like a personal attack against you. No hate on gd though, he's good when he wants to be. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4HM10geZ8bY#t=85

  22. LOL. it looks as if you were auditioning to be in Sunmi's MV as a vampire.

  23. lol it sounds like a zombie tryna rap. I'm a big B.A.P fan and sometimes i must say BYG's pronunciation is a bit off don't kill me babies but i guess i give him a pass when his lyrics make sense his flow isn't bad either and i'm a person who loves hippity hoppity music.
