I have always considered BoA to be one of the better looking girls in Korea, so I've been confused whenever I read that she doesn't have the face for acting. Sure, I don't hold BoA in the same regard as Han Ye Seul, but I would still give BoA a 9/10 on the celebrity visual scale.
.....
And this is where Korean netizens get off on the wrong foot when it comes to Korean actresses. They care about the visuals of actresses so much that super models become actresses without much training. Most of the actresses I like started off as models. Then netizens complain about the lack of acting ability the actresses have, so what is done about it? Actresses who don't have A+ looks but have some acting chops are relegated to supporting roles.
Now in this generation, instead of models becoming actresses, we have more singers and idols jumping into acting. So every time you see a Korean netizen (or an international netizen trying to act like a Korean netizen) bitching about Suzy or Seungyeon, just tell them 'Hey asshole, that's exactly what you wanted. You keep demanding that the best looking women become actresses regardless of ability.'
And this all leads to why I'm confused, because BoA is hotter than a lot of idols but is the only one getting shit for not having 'The Face'. UCAADs please, BoA has an album named 'The Face'.
So next time you see a retard state that BoA doesn't have The Face for acting, alert them that BoA's sixth Japanese album is titled 'The Face' and frankly tell them to shut the fuck up before you make sure that they don't have The Face for acting.
*words of appreciation for bae doona because it's vaguely related*

ReplyDeleteI agree, BoA doesn’t have the face for acting. She should pursue a career in sucking my dick instead.

DeleteBoA is beautiful. Not getting the whole "face" thing.
ReplyDeleteI honesty would like to see how she would do as an actress. Seeing her MVs, she can pull of emotion very well. Like in "Disturbance", I nearly cried.
I will do her in all her MV. Maybe except "Shout It Out".
Deleteeven 'ID Peace B'?
Delete*cough* Wota alert *cough*
DeleteShe had a 2 episode drama last year in Korea and is filming a movie right now.
Deletelol @akisame XD.
DeleteThanks for info @AKF I'll check out the drama!
@nayeon_fag as for "ID;Peace B" I thought she was very qt. Btw's why do they keep blowing her hair in her face? She must have been so annoyed while filming that.
@sunnykpop Everybody keeps saying she had PS ever since the vid came out. Though I don't see it at all…lol

ReplyDeleteShe looks decent, not too bad, but not exactly gorgeous. Well, I'd rather see Seungyeon in a drama than Bom or Manber. Anyway, we all have our different tastes. I find Jessica (Sexica) gorgeous but some disagree. Similarly, Seungyeon may not be your cup of tea.
ReplyDeleteThat's a good point you brought up about most actresses being sourced from models.
ReplyDeleteThere really is no difference between idol actresses and and regular actresses. Netizens don't seem to understand this.
Most actors are basically just good-looking people. Some can act better than others but acting is just a skill that can be learned. Most actors get better at it over time or by working with the right directors.
The reason a lot of actors are being sourced from the idol industry these days is because that is where a lot of the good-looking people went since the K-pop boom started.
Eight years ago, Suzy (and most other idol actresses) would have just started out as models instead of idols. She would have made the transition into acting just like all the "pure" actresses did and netizens probably wouldn't be bitching.
The fact that some of them suck at acting has nothing to do with them being idols. Plenty of actors suck that had nothing to do with K-pop. They still keep getting acting gigs, though, because looks are more important than talent in the entertainment industry.
What is this 'face' they are talking about anyway?
ReplyDeleteBoA is super gorgeous, she's perfect.
i don't get the supposition that people with acting ability are missing out because of idols
ReplyDeleteKim Soohyun's only method is his Blue Steel look
every K-drama i've seen is full of people who are either good looking or funny. the actual acting is hammy as fuck
Boa's cute, what's not to like ?
ReplyDeleteSome Korean netizens say shit like BoA has a huge head and other weird shit.
DeleteShe's hotter than 85-90% of actresses and idols in Korea.
"BoA has a huge head"
DeleteWhat the actual fuck, what "kind" of head size do they like
This?: http://www.aaronmead.com/resume/wp-content/uploads/2010/11/MattHowellSmallHead.jpg
I can see Bom in a Korean remake of Lars and the Real Girl.
ReplyDeletePreach!
ReplyDeleteWhat "the face for acting" even means?
ReplyDeleteWhatever, BoA is gorgeous.
Agreed. Considering lots of female idols did online modeling before they were idols, there is really no point in complaining. If Goo Hara, Suzy and Yoona never set foot on Inkigayo, no one would be complaining about their lack of acting ability. If Goo Hara had just gone from modeling online clothes to being in drama’s she’d be even respected than she is now.
ReplyDeleteIf Seungyeon (who apparently looks like an octopus) had gone into acting from clothes modeling all k-netizens would be saying is "her face is so small" "her eyes are so big" and that’s that. She’d be playing every “normal girl” archetype in K-dramas because that’s her look but she’d be getting praise as if she looked like Song Hye Kyo.
It’s the male idols that often look out of place trying to become actors. Considering that lots of the male actors were legit models (walking runways and getting ad campaigns), idols often look too young and boyish IMO but they hardly ever get criticized.
Overall BoA is definitely pretty enough to transition into acting. She just needs to revamp her look and make it more “actresses like” and stop hanging around so many idols. I think BoA's image is just so "idol" it's hard for people to see her any other way.
