[MV Review] Ga-in - Truth or Dare

)

Ga-in released Truth or Dare last month and I totally overlooked it because of all of the attention given to Fxxk U, on top with the fact that Sunmi also came back. I embedded the performance version above, but if you wish to view the full music video, click here. The MV review will be based off of the full music video.

I actually like this song a lot. I kind of wish that this song was promoted over Fxxk U, because most of the attention that song got was the fact that Ga-in was having Human Centipede-esque sex in the shower in that music video, and I honestly don't remember that song at all. I only remember being creeped out by the music teaser. By now, everyone should know that it takes a lot to creep me out.

The jazzy beat compliments Ga-in's vocals very well throughout. I really like the fact that despite being from BEG, Ga-in doesn't try to have her vocals take over her songs. Sure, she's no Jea when it comes to singing, but to my untrained ears, it sounds like the producers know how to bring out the best in Ga-in with songs like this instead of trying to force her to belt out some ballads. This is particularly why I enjoy Ga-in's songs a lot more than BEG's songs. I enjoy the beats in the songs, but they never feel like they are trying to do too much. I think BEG tries to be too "innovative" with their songs and concepts and it has always been off-putting to me. I'm probably one of the few people that prefer Abracadabra and Sign to the rest of their choreography.

Now that the song has enticed me, let's see if I can stomach the full MV, as I have avoided that until right now. The fucker is eight minutes long and I really don't like watching long ass MVs anymore thanks to T-ara.

....

And it was just a documentary MV. I searched for a few minutes to see if anyone giffed Ga-in at 1:40, but I couldn't find anything. That's a shame, as that was easily the most amusing part of the music video for me, aside from Narsha squeezing her own tits together.

It's a really solid comeback song for Ga-in and I'm looking forward to her next solo promotions.

  1. The song kinda reminds me of Robin Thicke's Blurred Lines. The whole MV was kinda like a fake documentary. In short, it is way better than Fuck You.

  2. I'm surprised how you wrote this review without mentioning Thicke's

Song is basically a crappy version of blurred lines, its blatant similarity just destroys everything.

If anything, the BEG 'Love' reference is the only good thing about this shit.

    1. I have no idea what you're talking about, which explains why I didn't mention anything you wrote lol.

  3. I love the album overall.
A lot of people are comparing it to "Blurred Lines." But I say it's a way less crapier version of it. (Seriously I thought Blurred Lines was a piece of crap and cha_cha agrees.) I feel as if Gain improved it tremendously. Honestly, she never really disappoints me.

    1. Dude, the drag queen version of "Blurred Lines" was still significantly less crappy than the original, even though they used the same backtrack.

    2. I've seen that version. I agree, it was a lot less crappy than the original.
To have cha_cha say it: the only thing good about "Blurred Lines" was Pharrell. And that's just cuz she thinks he's hot and likes him as an overall artist O_O.

  4. I thought this song was an utter POS, tbh. Closer to Marvin Gaye's "Got To Give It Up" than Blurred Lines but I hate both so whatev. Video is great though, both versions.

Agreed (and I love that shit)

  5. Seriously the fake documentary is pretentious as fuck, I would have undestood it if it was Lee Hyori or even Hyuna doing something like this, but Gain... she is one of the few (female) idols who get a pass in being sexy, hasn't a lot of shitty rumors and other stuff idols usually go through

  6. I don't like the song at all. There were small moments where the way she was singing reminded me of "Bloom" and I kept expecting the song to 'blossom' (Hah!) into this big chorus of awesome, but...nothing.

I have no time for this song, but it's Ga-in, so I kinda have to tolerate it.

  7. I skipped the whole "documentary" part, but the song is great.

  8. tbh i'm a little more than done with this whole jazzy-pop-song-that-never-quite-takes-off-but-its-reserved-boringness-is-kind-of-charming thing that's trending so hard in kpop right now

i can't help but think that the success of growl had something to do with its existence and it makes me dislike exo a bit

  9. I like the video and song. People keep bitching that the documentary is so fake. Well... it is fake. I thought that was the whole point of Ga In's comeback concept. Being a bitch, people talking about her behind her back, and faking everything for the camera. I wouldn't be surprised if she really is a bitch. Fucking great concept!
