[MV Review] Wonder Girls - Like Money

There are no words to express what I'm feeling right now, except...

Ok, so I could have done without the corny "complete domination" introduction and admittedly, the whole robot/futuristic theme has been played out to death, but the song itself is so damn catchy that I don't care much for the disappointing MV production. Their Engrish has almost all but disappeared and, best of all, there are no close-ups of Mrs. Potato Head/Lim so I can't be mad. However, a close-up I was disturbed by was the gorilla in the lab suit at 2:30.

"My eyes were bigger with the mask on."
Although JYP was denied from infamously whispering his name at the beginning of the song, he still finds a way to weasle his way into Wonder Girls' MV by appearing as a robot surgeon. Talk about persistence -_-

But as with all K-pop music, haters are gonna hate (mostly Sones and Blackjacks). I can already imagine the negative comments flooding in on YouTube right now:

"Liek omg, they are totally copying Tron!"
"Screw Wonder Girls. Only 2NE1 can use autotune."
"Who's who? They all look the same."

The last comment, which will probably come from an American audience, is only fair because I can't tell white people apart either.

  3. Loving the song! Yubin's sexy as hell (as usual) and I'm loving her rap. DerpHees take too much screen time.

The teaser looked promising but they completely screwed with the MV, they should've gone with one concept or the other (Dancing MV or alien/robot story MV) for me. I'm also disappoint because there wasn't much close-up for the members (well actually I only care about Yubin close-ups but still...).

    2. IA. I expected more close-ups of each member, seeing as the point is to introduce Wonder Girls to an otherwise unfamiliar American audience. And the MV looked so much cooler in the teasers, wth! I was deceived...

Thanks, yeah I'll be making an Album Cover for this one. :)

      @BEAST
      lol yeah so true.
JYP should know by now if WG's are gonna advance to America Sohee isn't the one to be in the forefront, it's all good in Asia but America has different standards......okay, I'm probably too Yubin biased, but she's too dang hot.

    1. Actually, there were a couple close-ups of her in the car and then this:

But I know what you mean. Even if the entire MV was a close-up of Yoobin, it still wouldn't be enough!

  11. For whatever reason, I don't really like the "wherever you are" line, but I love how "Hold me like diamonds, treat me like a star" fits in with the flow of the rest. That's my favorite part.

The verses are pretty awful, and the rap is where all the engrish awkwardness is kept. In terms of overall sound, it's a really polished song like you expect from JYP, though in the beat you can hear Cri$tyle's touch. It's a lot better than the clip we heard in the WG movie.

Johnny Wujek dropped the fucking ball on styling. Yenny is the only one who pulled off her share of the outfits, which were awful. Hair and makeup were also terrible, the worst being when they had the green eyeshadow on the whole area around their eye (zombie style?) The flat bangs were terrible, and poor Sunye got the worst of everything.

  12. Can someone please explain to me why Sohee and Lim are given verses and Sun and Yenny only ad libs when it's clear to anyone with ears that the latter have way better voices? It doesn't make any sense to me.

I actually liked the song on first listen which is a rarity for any WG song. Yubin's rap was great and no accents were detected (with the exception of 'heart' and 'instruction'.

Hated the tacky wardrobe, hairstyles, and ugly shoes though.

JYP actually made a clever cameo for once.

    1. If Yenny and Sunye got the verse, who would get the adlibs? You can't just cut members out altogether. The verses are practically just talking anyway and Yenny and Sunye carry all the power of the chorus so it's not like they're not utilized.

  13. Song was awesome,the MV was...boring.
I liked "The DJ is mine" better though ><

  14. I didn't like the rap play between akon and yubin. It wasn't clear to me what so ever. But over all sense its a dance trask. The auto tune is acceptable. It beats 2ne1 "I Love You" jpop rip off. Wonder Girls are becoming more sexy which I like. It fits them verse being to kiddish.

That plot eh but look damn they look good. Even sohee look pretty hot.

  15. I like it but the dancing and outfits could have been better. Ugh, jyp needs to gtfo

  16. Good song, wasn't really paying attention to the MV but WG aren't good looking anyway, besides Yoobin. I can see this being a club banger in the future.

  17. I like you BEASTmode ^^ Even tough I didn't like your first articles, you like WG and Yubin, this site reaaaally needed someone who write about WG without mention Sohee, who I think is cute.
The song is cool, fits US style and Yubin looked hot as hell. Yenny's adlibs and Sunye in the chorus are awesome. But yeah, outfits, hair and make up could be better. It bothers me so much that they keep the same stylist who always make horrible stuffs on Sunye, now she's like Hyoyeon, always getting the worst outfits. She's so beautiful but he/she makes her look ugly. I want So Hot sexy short hair on her.

  20. This is the best song I've heard from Wonderfuls.

    Pros:
    Dat Yenny
    Less Mrs. Potato Head

    Cons:
    Sohee's existence

  21. The domination thing needs to stop NOW, more so because this song is going to fail and I'll be laughing my ass off at their "domination", but also because it's corny. I hate Sohee's accent, almost ruined the song for me. And the MV could've been so much better. I like futuristic shit, no matter how overdone it is, but this looked so damn cheap (ironically). I don't mean the effects, like with Sohee's arm, I'm talking about when they're seen dancing in that dark room with the silver outfits. It's supposed to be futuristic so it should be high tech and everything, but it looked like straight up garbage.

The song is very catchy though and I've been replaying it. However, if it wasn't for Akon (and Yenny and Sunye) it would've been bad.

    Aight? Peace niggaz.

  22. This is why kpop is infinitely better than western pop. Western pop is just sex, drugs and money under autotune. And not to forget, Koreans are way more passionate about music than westerners.
