Kpop Fan Hating on Taiwanese Group Makes No Sense

So, I was watching this music video because the girls are hot and I find the song catchy enough to listen to because of their talent, I saw a stupid comment. Okay, I always see stupid comments or else I wouldn't have started this blog.

So, that was the initial reaction I had when I facepalmed myself. Everyone knows the quote "You're only as strong as your weakest link", right?

The funniest part to me wasn't Hyoyeon's bad singing. It was the description in the box: "[I am A complete Hyoyeon Fan Girl] I'll admit that i am an extreme insecure person but not to the point were i insult others. before you talk about some close your eyes take a deep breath and really look at your self in the mirror.(:"

lololololol.

Then again, we have gone over this a few times lately, especially with Kpopalypse oppar explaining how singing talent isn't really needed at all since technology can make Hyoyeon's voice listenable.

So what I'm getting is that it's okay to like Korean groups for catchy songs and their looks, but as soon as comparisons arise, it's all about "talent" in attempt to make what you like seem superior. K.

  2. The funniest part is how literrally everytime people WANT the weakest link to be given more attention. I'm sorry guys, Qri unnir and Lay oppar have been given literally no lines for a reason.
Most idols are quite talented but your stepping into dangerous waters if you use their talent alone as their argument.

    1. At least Qri unnie is very fappable, what merit does Lay oppar have? (not to take anything away from him, but I honestly don't know what he is....)

    2. Lay actually gets a fair amount of lines in the Chinese versions of the more ballad type songs. Sehun gets the least lines by far

    6. Look on the bright side! You won't have to worry about me stealing your husband!
The only reason I pick on Lay is because he's the "Hyoyeon" of EXO in that his fans are über delusional so poking fun at him usually produces hilarious results. I'm actually glad he's in EXO.

    7. uhh ok lay is my husband i can deal with that

i said that because i could have sworn it was you on another article who was talking about laykai etc etc

i am stuck in the old mama era so i still see lay as the member nobody recognizes somehow

    8. You're choosing LAY as the Hyoyeon of Exo, really? He gets a fair amount of lines and camera time, and is the best dancer(I personally find Kai's dancing too dramatic for a pop group even if he's good at it).

It's obviously Xiumin. Almost no lines or no lines at all, most of the time he only sings something along with one of the other members. Plus he was the "fat" one up until wolf happened, and he is without a doubt the least popular member overall. He clearly isn't picking up Chinese as quickly as Chen, his dancing is just average in the group, he's not very memorable personality wise, and he's also the least attractive in M(not Hyoyeon level ugly, just not as good looking as the others. Baekhyun is the Hyoyeon looks-wise).

    9. Xuimin is actually one of the best singers but I dunno why but they don't use his talent. If you have watched their first guesting on Weekly Idol, Chen and Baekhyun lost to Xiumin when it comes to singing. :) get your facts straight dude.

  3. God Chuck oppar, you missed out the best part of the description! She wrote a whole essay on why you shouldn't hate SNSD! It was so fucking hilarious! (Although I will admit that she had one or two good points)

  4. So, I downloaded Dream Girl's EP "Girl's Talk" and it's a fairly solid mini album (5 tracks). Basically, if you want to listen to something similar to a Kpop girl group without the shitty rapping, check it out.

Ya see, I can't condone listening to anyone who isn't on the same talent level as SNSD or SISTAR. :(

  5. I found out about them earlier this year because 2 of them are in a really good Taiwanese drama called Miss Rose. When I found out that they were in a group, I checked them out. They're pretty decent. I'm always surprised when I find Taiwanese pop stars in dramas because they just never seem like it. I totally agree about the rapping in Kpop girl groups. It's the main reason why I don't like the majority of their songs. Nice article. I got some serious chuckles out of it!

    1. I found out about them because Xue Fu (Puff) is in the drama Just You and I like her in that drama haha.

I would enjoy Kpop a lot more if the rapping is removed. I enjoy the production on a lot of songs that happen to get ruined by the rapping.

  6. People who think they can assess talent level from a promotional MV are similar to people who think they can assess looks from a fashion magazine spread.

  7. I don't really like the fact that you make fun of my bias but this blog is just too damn funny. I think I've probably gotten used to people mocking Hyoyeon beacause even her fans call her fat etc lol

    1. who calls hyoyeon fat? she's a lot of things and admittedly i don't follow her but i've always seen it as a credit to her that she's always in great shape

      Delete
    2. Hyoyeon is probably the fattest (well, she isn't fat at all but SNSD) of the group. Still by fat I mean weighs about 110 pounds which is ridiculously skinny by most standards and she never seems out of shape or actually fat or anything.

      Delete
    3. Nah, Yuri is the fat one. She lost some weight more recently but most of the time she is bigger than the others. If you look around the time of All My Love Is For You/Oh! (japanese ver.), check out her thighs compared to the rest, they are huge. Of course she looks pretty good when she loses the weight but she just can't keep it off I guess. It used to be Tiffany but it seems like she learned her lesson because I haven't noticed her gaining any weight.

Hyoyeon is short, has stubby legs in reality, and she's stockier and a little bit more muscular than the others. I wouldn't call her fat, but she just doesn't have the proportions to compete with girls like Sooyoung and Yoona.

She is a troll though so I can see why people just go ahead and call her the fat one anyway.

  9. I started listening to a few of the songs by this group. That one girl with the long straight hair, is totally a Chinese version of Nana.
