Healthy porn for men - deconstructing dog-whistle concepts in k-pop

Recently, a producer of the idol TV show "Produce 101" came out and openly admitted what I'd already known and had been telling people for years - that the show (and by implication, all idol groups with a similar theme) is basically jack-off material, or "healthy porn for men" as he describes it.  Several people were shocked - could this be true?  How come they hadn't noticed?  More importantly, how to identify this "healthy porn"?  Come on a journey with Kpopalypse into the world of dog-whistle concepts!

Why Bandwagons Are Bad.

Just when you thought it would end, the motherfuckin' saga continues.

"Not this shit again."

You know, at first I thought this whole misunderstanding couldn't get even dumber but as usual, people that live their lives through the internet never cease to amaze me.

Understanding plagiarism and song ownership issues so you don't look like a fuckhead on the Internet

A couple years ago I wrote this post and then this other post about plagiarism in k-pop, to help the people I encounter understand the basics of what plagiarism is and is not.  I still gets tons of questions every time a new k-pop plagiarism or song ownership dispute appears, which seems to be about once per week lately.  So in the spirit of "teach a man to fish rather than slap them across the face with a fish", as well as the spirit of "please stop asking me these stupid fucking questions because nobody cares", Kpopalypse now brings to you a nice, simple guide to finding plagiarism in your favourite k-pop songs!  Yay!

Best of the Worst: Oct. 8, 2015

This week saw a lot of people making bold statements. We have a model telling IU who she should date, an actress insisting her wedding is "definitely not shotgun," and Hyejeong's shirt:

A Lesson in Korean History: IU and Seotaiji's Sogyeokdong

Hello, FISHies! After a long hiatus, I am finally returning to my part in contributing to the blog with an article that may be potentially boring to a few; however, extremely informational to those who shall read it. Now without further ado, I shall explain to you the historical significance of IU and Seotaiji's newest release, 'Sogyeokdong'.

Plagiarism – a primer for k-pop fans and netizen dummies

This blog was inspired by the latest controversy surrounding that dastardly devil-may-care trouble-magnet IU.

FISTy

I'm sure getting some blog value out of IU lately.  If I ever meet her I'll have to offer to go down on her.  I owe her that much.  I won't even ask for a handjob in return (although I admit I'm also considering where that hand has been).

IU is finally getting some dick

...and I mean a TOTAL DICK.

Soon after the news broke, netizens around the world had remarkably few things to say. In fact, they all seemed to say only one thing: "She could do better"

Our upcoming idol rapper/superstar Daebak happens to be close with all the ladies, so we asked him to call IU for comment on how things were.

Well, honey, we hoped you enjoyed yourself anyway.

Kim Yuna's Kiss & Cry Teaser

IU & Krystal? Let me go get my pedo-lotion (lolwut).
But realistically speaking, I think this show is going to flop. Why? After about 3 months of watching their favorite idols skate, people will begin to realize that it's a total waste of time. How much variety can you get from the same fucking sport done by amateurs? At least Heroes (the show that's being replaced) had various entertaining activities that were worth watching.
