[MV Review] BTS (Bangtan Boys) - "Fire"

BTS continue their youth-driven concept with the release of "Fire" and it's cool.

"Fire" as a song is another solid track in BTS's already solid discography. It's similar to "Dope" (the intro even has "Dope" playing in the background) in the sense that it is an upbeat dance/hip-hop number however it seems to have more "electronica" beats. It's honestly a well welcome to the groups sound.

The verses aren't boring which is a big plus for this song. J-Hope and Suga's rapping is all over the place (more than usual) which would fall on borderline overbearing had it not been for the awesome instrumental. JiKook's bridge before the chorus is flawless and build's up perfectly and the actual chorus has impact and hits hard without making you want to Van Gogh your ears. This is the shit YG has been trying to do for years but has been failing so badly at.

Speaking of YG, I see a lot of people comparing this song to "Bang Bang Bang" (even flat out calling it plagiarism-lmao.) That makes me laugh. "Fire" isn't nearly as terrible as "Bang Bang Bang."

Jungkook is ruining my bias list.
What is similar about this release and BBB is the music video. It's all over the goddamn place and makes zero sense which is rare for a BTS video. Hell, BBB made more sense than this video. A dude appears in all black to which Yoongi jumps over the gate and lights the dude on fire with a mixtape....okay?! Then everything that follows is a montage of: dancing outside the company's studio, watching someone ride a bike while on fire, ironing Jin, watching a car fall from the sky(?), playing with lighters (while he does look adorable with it, don't trust Jimin with one), dancing in Beyonce's pool(?), playing on an old school Nintendo that just so happens to blow shit up(?), chilling with the leftovers from GD and Taeyang's "Good Boy" MV, being amazed that a fucking stove lights fire (?), then performing in front of a crowd with flames behind you. If that made any sense to you then congratulations, you're very high.
Crazy-ass MV aside, only one member got the short end of the stick with styling-and it's Namjoon. Why oh why did the coordie give him that ugly turquoise shaved bowl cut?! Why did they take one of the hottest members of one of the hottest boy groups and make him look like premature piece of broccoli? I need answers. Aside from that flop hair due all the other members are styled nicely. Jimin has black hair again and it's grown out which means he's practically on the same level he was pre-"I Need U". I don't know what Jungkook's been doing however he needs to keep doing it because he's insanely hot here. Yoongi's silver hair is a step up from the blonde. I don't know why he's styled like a Miami coke dealer but it's odly suiting for him. V got his 2014 hair back. J-hope looks like he normally does which is GOOD. And then there is Jin, who's blonde hair turned out waaayyy better in the MV than I thought it would because based from the teaser pictures it looked like Big Hit had given him the "fuckboy" haircut. He looks hot in the MV though. Really hot.

Overall "Fire" is a certified banger. While it's not going to get as such a rave response as "Dope" it's still something that I see myself listening to a lot in the future.

*Side note - sorry this review took so long. I've had the flu and I've really only been active on Twitter.

  1. I usually like Bts upbeat stuff but this one is to jarring and all over the place for me. Kinda like chor up but I might get used to it and adore it later. Am I the only one who don't like blonde Jin? And he is my bias. He's like Suho of Bts. And also: Wow you authors have really pick it up on reviews lately... Good work

    1. Churro is currently my favorote Twice song. I can actually see the Suho-ness now that you mention it.

  2. I have a love-hate relationship with Bang Bang Bang. The verses are some of the sickest in Kpop with how fucking hype they are but the chorus is one of the worst ever created

  3. I've been waiting for this article from you, haha. The stove fire thing, I think they got the idea from that video where a bunch of dudes were playing around and using a stove as a turntable. It's actually hilarious.

I really didn't get why 'Fire' was considered plagiarizing BBB (lol). Bitter VIPs? It's way better than BBB. Fire is a really great song! But honestly the song that got my attention on the album is 'Save ME'. While it's a given that BTS would produce another solid hip-hop track, I really didn't expect BTS going Zedd and damn, it's a total banger. That aside, I thought I'd get tired of hearing the tracks from their EPs last year but when I listened to the entire album, they still all sound great. There's like 4 or 5 remixes but still sound awesome all the same.

Oh and, God bless blonde fuckboy-haircut Jin.

    2. ''Save Me'' will be reviewed! This has really been one of BTS's best eras.

  4. I completely agree with the part about Rap Monster. BTS' stylists need to stop cutting his hair so short, it looks awful. I want to see him with black hair again. Straight black hair, not curly black hair that makes him look like a paint brush. Also, Fire exceeded my expectations since the teaser photos seemed boring to me.

    1. The teaser was a mess. Namjoon's hair is probably so damaged from all of the bleaching.

  5. I know man they fucked namjoon over lmao lately theyve been styling it different like combing up the front of his hair or something, idk it looks better. Hope it grows out fast though

    1. Yeah it looked better in one of their performances but I still hope it's just black for the next comeback.

  7. Jungkook is the winner of this comeback. You should check out the performance where he wore a thigh choker.

  8. I'd honestly ship the hell out of Jin and Sunny

  9. 3/10 not enough Jimin so basically what's the point

In all serious though the song is jarring as fuck

    1. The lack of Jimin is made up with Jungkook's hotness in this.
