[MV Review] BTS (Bangtan Boys) - "Save Me"

BTS released their second promotional track "Save Me" which might cements their spot as my new favorite boy group.

My #1 favorite boy group for years has been SHINee but that honor now goes to BTS. Out of eleven tracks they have released, I've only disliked, which was "Boy In Luv". I could shit on that song for days. Just thinking about that it makes me cringe. Their Japanese releases are another story though.

I know a lot of you will accuse me of "BTS-fagging" or whatever but if a group keeps on releasing solid track after solid track, then I'm going to keep praising their stuff while shitting on the garbage. And if the good shit outweighs the bad shit, I'm not going to start reaching for and making up bad shit just to appease to more people.

Jungkook continues to wreck my bias list.

Anyway, the song is great. As someone who loved "Fire" and will be replaying that song a lot, I will be replaying "Save Me" a lot more. Which is weird because it's fucking BTS doing a ballad. Or the closest thing we'll ever get to them doing one. However it's not the standard OST ballads that K-pop has become so accustomed , but rather a sound inspired by Dance Hall(?) (possibly Tropical House, someone please correct me.) The melody is gorgeous and what makes this song stands out among other BTS songs, is that there is just as much singing, if not more, than rapping. Speaking of the rapping, it's not to harsh on the ears and sticks to the mellow vibe of the song.

This song isn't done with surprises as it contains another one: 60%-70% is sung by Jimin. Typically most of the vocal work goes to Jungkook, which is expected since he's the best singer in the group. However it's a nice change to see Jimin carry a song.

The visuals in the video are about as stripped down as possible, and is honestly fine with me. Not every music video can be "I Need U" and "Run", and this dance version works better with the song than a story-driven music video in my opinion. All of the members look good, the only one that really stands out is V with that bright ass pink hair. But other than that, no one got shafted here.

I just felt like posting some Yoongi here.

So overall "Save Me" was full of surprises, but very well done surprises and an overall fantastic track.

  1. I think this could be one of the best comebacks in 2016 if the raps were much better: RapMon is OK but Suga's raps were dissapointing - who is my favorite rapper in the band- and J-Hope's half singing-half rapping would be great if he didn't shout things like "THE BEST OF ME!" etc.

BTS' best quality is their rapper line so that was a bit dissapointing but vocal line did a great job. (Especially Jimin, I'm thankful that he didn't sound like a crying whale.)

Visually, they are awesome. Even RapMon looked tolerable with that bowl cut. But the winner has to be Jungkook. Man, he is like a fine wine, he gets better with age.

    1. Wow I thought I was the only one that preferred Suga over Namjoon. I like Namjoon, don't get me wrong, but I've always found Suga to use more technique.

In most title tracks sans "No More Dream" and "N.O." the rapping doesn't really shine. It's mostly for the b-sides which I guess makes sense being that they can be deemed "inappropriate for broadcast" in a heartbeat.

  2. They are comparatively good among Kpop groups. It's just that I'm having an aesthetic fatigue thanks to some of their die-hard fans.

    1. ARMY's can be exta, but then again so is every fandom from most popular groups. People just obsess over how annoying the ARMY fandom is which makes other equally obnoxious fandoms look "better" by comparison.

    2. GAAAH!!! you fools. are you 10 yos just like those retarded teens on yt who don't have a life? the tren one year or two ago was to hate on so called exo-ls, now it moved to "army". persons like that are not diehard fans, they're just stupid sheep that go with the heard because they laughed at the "you got no jams" joke and think it's cool to stan bts. it was the same for exo and every popular group ever. these people need a constant obsession, so when they see something new, they latch onto it. so please, stop mistaking retards for "fans", and give the respective group a chance. I also used to think exo ls wereannoying as fuck and avoided exo, but after I thought better, I gave them a chance and they are ok, nice vocals. I've been stanning bts since the beginning, but fans with a normal mindset will usually also listen to other opinions, except "my bias is the best yaas slay"... even though I love them, I 100% admit that vocal in exo>>>vocal in bts. but of course, bts is so much better in rapping, MUCH better than chanyeol, contrary to what delulus want to believe. so yeah, tldr: give a group a chance regardless of their fandom.

  3. That Suga pic is hot... I never thought I would find him hot, he usually looks like male CL.

    1. I rarely see CL resemblance (maybe because she changes her facial features with make-up so much) but when I do see it, it is a very uncanny resemblance.

  4. I think this should have been the title track instead of Fire. By the way, have you listened to the whole album? What are your favorite B-sides?

    1. I've listened to most of the album. Now I can just purchase that instead of the two separate versions because that would have put a major dent in my funds. I really love it overall. My favorite track is the long version of "House of Cards."

  5. I used to be a hardcore BTS fan, but now I find them boring and the fanbase is cancerous. This song is okay though.

    1. A lot of people feel that way. As long as BTS keeps putting out high quality songs, I won't have a problem with them.

  6. As cancerous as the fanbase is BTS keeps releasing above average to fantastic music so I keep listening. I think that Suga and J-Hope's raps sound good in the song (expecially j-hope's - i used to think he was useless but he has vocally imporved exponentially) and Rapmon's is too yelly which is as expected for a BTS song. But I'm glad Jimin is singing and not doing that stupid screech thing they make him do at the end of songs because he does have a decent voice.

    2. I agree. J-Hope has really improved as of late. He's always been a fantastic dancer, however now I think he'll get more song time.
